That looks like an OS intended for use in off road buggies.

Mike

edit- Looks like it might be a Duratrax filter. Check out this link;

One of the local hobby shop managers here has one of these. It is an Ergo 30 Highly modified for pure speed. They only sell them overseas and for some reason won't/don't import them to the US. He got his from Japan.
The engine is an OS CVR .21 or .12 I can't remeber which exactly modified to run in the heli. According to Bruce (the local owner of one) it is a rocket. I have yet to see it fly though.

Think I shall be watching this corner of the forum very closley, have always wanted to get into heli drag racing (well I do it on the roads so why not in the air whaa who said that).

Are there any techniques I should know about for the launch? Whats the best height to launch to and so on?

We can't give that info out! You might beat us.
Well since you are in "the land down under" and this is just between you and me right?

High headspeed. As high as you can get it SAFELY.
Get light on the skids and nose it over as far as you can without hitting the ground of course.
When the horn goes you punch both sticks forward and keep her straight.
Try to stay as low as you can to the ground but keep in mind at those high headspeeds the heli will be very pitchy and you WILL porposie a bit till you get used to it.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
The drags up here are won on your lauch.

Ok don't tell anyone that stuff alright.

A guy here has that heli... the Ergo racing... it does use a OS 21 car engine and pipe.

But to be honest, the last time it was out flying, I didn't find it THAT fast. I mean a R50 can maintain that kind of FFF.

And it is one expensive bird considering it's size, all CF frame including skids.

But your mising the point of drag racing, it acceleration that wins , not top speed, and the lighter the better.

Well it seems that JR decided to stop makeing them so finding one is going to be Hard.
You might give Cyber Heli a call thats where I got mine maybe he can find one for you.
Keep in mind they are not Cheep! I think I paid $600.00 for the kit and $250 for the motor.
I am still working out the bugs in mine Ineed to find som flat bottom blades for it like 520 to 530 mm I think the 550 V Blades are to much for the motor.

I know where there is one....

riprocop,
Sent you some mail. I know where there is one with only a few tanks on it. Owned by a manager of the LHS. Really clean RTF with all the electronics.
I will call him and get you some pics if you are interested.

I raced against one a few years ago in Brooks OR. It is quite intimidating to listen to the ergo spool up to there the engine is screaming at about 20,000 rpms and then the pilots flips the mode switch and the engine goes up to 27,000 and the head is spinning near 2100. Needless to say my nexus was smoked both runs even though I got a jump at the start each time.
