Towerhobbies finally has a picture up of the new V4, from the pic I can tell it's an FP heli with motor driven tail, head looks similar if not identical to the V3 head, also same landing gear as the later batch of V3s, from this one tiny pic it's difficult to tell what improvements have been made.... but right off the bat you can see the cool new canopy decals!

Other than the new canopy and decals it pretty much looks identical to my V3.......

Well, maybe there are enough improvements that we just don't know about yet to make it better than the V3???

Hmm it looks cool.

But as far as I can tell, it just has a new canopy and the current upgrade skids. Hope they don't charge more than the V3

As far as they know, I already had it!

One RR member PMed me about those new landing struts on the V4. He made me think if they are any better than the older type. I just realized that Century played another trick on us, and we bought right into it.

When I bought my V3 it had the skinny carbon stick struts. I upgraded them to the metal type. Then all V3 sold by Century came with those "upgraded struts". They look the same as the ones on the V4.

It's just as easy to break those as the skinny carbon sticks. It's a money maker for Century. The old type cost .20$ to repair, and even it's shortened you can still use them. The new type costs $15 a pair and can't be easily repaired.

GF, I have one of the newer style V3s with the upgrade landing gear, and it IS the exact same as that V4 landing gear, I have no complaints about the landing gear though, I have yet to break a set, and it will flex pretty far before breaking..... I'm as disappointed as anyone that on the surface it seems very little has changed from V3 to V4...... but Century may still have a trick or two up thier sleeve that we just don't know about yet, maybe imroved electronics? Possibly A better head design(even though from this pic the head looks the same.... it's not really a very good pic)???? Maybe the gear ratios have been fine tuned a litte? Maybe better motors? Maybe it's a bolt together design instead of a glued up heli? None of these changes would be immidiatly apparent from the one pic we have, yet all are still a possibility. According to the information on Towers description there are some internal modifications.... they just don't specify what!

G-F, there is no way the head shown in the picture at the top of this thread will be upgradable to collective without being replaced.

True, true, but replace the whole head is not that hard. One push-pin the whole head comes off .

I think the difference will be mounting of the 3rd servo, and 2 extra legs on the swash. Just another marketing trick to make more money. Guess what I don't mind. If they make more, they can put more into R&D. I think that's where the money needs to go.

What makes a V4.

1) Updated head assembly.
2) Sport canopy.
3) Heavy duty LG.
4) Tail boom tail support housing (longer)
5) GB updated.
6) 6CH radio (The 6CH tx for 4ch bird???)

The V3 now has a sporty look and updated muscles.

Sound like updating it. But any improvements are always welcome.

Sorry Genovia but to me it looks like the updates for the V4 were..'it aint broke so dont fix it'...I for one was kind of expecting lipos?

Why no lipos?

Hi All,

so why does tower hobbies have the hummingbird V4 and it's not on the century site??

I find this very backward. does this mean Century is no longer forward thinking?

Cheers,
Leslie

I think it's their web master on vacation to Asia. I have not seen much news on the Century site.

Also they need to get rid off as many V3s as they can before bringing on the new dish

See, that's the problem. It wouldn't be fair to Century if we keep on talking about Align stuff here. But Century left us with nothing to talk about . That's hope Arnie and Greybird post more Belt drive pictures here
