Wow, A Chinook that 3d's. (almost) How would you like to repair a blade strike on it. TWO sets of blades plus the fuse thrown in for good measure!!! I was just wondering if the rear blades and the front blades are identical. I bet somebody has the answer
I have a 8 channel radio but a one channel brain.

Wheres theres lead, theres luck.

Stall turn with a chinook...that pilot has got some balls...

I was hoping for a loop or roll...but i guess that voids the warranty and tends to ends pilot's careers so thet don't do that anymore..

Nice video though...

Nice

I like the rolling backwards while standing 45deg up on the rear wheels I think he needs more balls for that than for the stall turn, as he can't see anything backwards and he's risking a blade hit to the ground if he goes too steep

Also the backward stall is nice.

Wonder how fast can a chinook fly backwards. I remember that full scale can't fly backwards fast.

BTW Does anyone know how to download videos from google video on macintosh?

On the RHS of the Google screen there is a link (button) to download the video. On the (my) mac it goes onto the desk top. So long as you have Quick Time player installed it will the play

BTW its a 25 meg file.

Theoretically a Chinook will fly as fast backwards as forwards.

The reason a full scale is limited in backwards flight is the tail rotor effectivness.
After a certain speed the tail rotor can't hold against the weathervaning.

I think it was the air tattoo at fairford. The Chinooks are based at Raf odiham in Hampshire and fly over us all the time. You can feel the air pressure change when they pass overhead. pretty cool for a big bird

The older i get the faster i was

Great video!

Had the same Chinook land at work last week and they gave us the same display when they left.

To see it do the vertical drop was amazing.

Only remembered that I had my camera after it was nearly over - have a few photos in my gallery.

The Fwd and Aft sets of blades are the same as far as length, width, and chord, But they are of course different in that one set is RH rotation, the other is LH rotation!!

The Blades are semi-symmetrical, 30 ft long, 2 ft wide, and weigh in the neighborhood of 400 Lbs ea. This is all going on memory, that may be degenerating after close to 20 yrs.....

ya don't SAY !

It WAS an impressive demo. I wouldn't want to ride along for THAT sequence.

No matter WHO was shooting at me ! I'd stay and take my chances shooting back.

I didn't know a 2 blade heli could do all that. That guy took that helicopter to its stress loads no doubt. I thought that heli was going to break up any minute. Guys got alot of b@lls to fly like that. Jimmi
