I purchased a Vibe and my friend got an EVO Freya and Avant conversion. I built both and we took them out today. Considering I set both up, same engines and pipes, I must say I am more impressed with the Avant. I saw a distinctive difference in performance, roll rate, etc. I am completely happy with the Vibe but if I had it to do over again the Avant would be my choice. The gear ratio on his Avant has not been changed either so I'm really looking forwared to see how it does then.

I am looking at this from basic setup on both with no additional tweaking so there is room for improvement on both.If anyone is debating between these two, spend the couple hundred extra and go with the Avant.

Building Mine Now!

Hope to fly it this weekend. Just ordered the programable head, I may have to wait till the weekend following to fly with the newer head, since one has to order some additional Hirobo parts to complete the build.

Forecast is for 70 and mostly sunny. Last weekend was 35 degrees with 30 MPH winds. What a difference a week makes!

Well, I have to admit I am pretty impressed with the performance of the Avant, even with the mixture very rich. I can't wait to fly it when I can lean it out a bit. Even with the high winds we flew in today the heli was on rails. The heli seems as though it has endless power with the OS SZ engine. I did not hear it bog at all even when I was doing flips, rolls, and tic tocs.

Plus I have yet to remove all the weight from the paddles and take the 20% EXPO out of the radio. It may be too fast for me then, but I will see when the time comes.

I was also impressed with how fast and smooth Widowmakers Vibe was. The Vibe looks awesome with the painted canopy it comes with! I gotta get some color on my Avant canopy and lose the ugly Freya one....

We tried Tims SAB blades on mine and no real difference. Having flown both a few times now I still think the Avant is the better heli. Some have suggested flipping the Vibe grips, doing some cutting and grinding, increasing cyclic travel and changing over to a flybar cage but I don't agree. I should not have to do this on a $1000 plus latest and supposedly greatest heli. If these modifications make such a huge difference then I feel that looks bad on JRs part. During their research and design of this heli was leading edge never tried? ... or since leading edge would have required new grip design they just skimped, settled for less and used the old grips instead?

I think the Avant lives up to its claim as the most advanced to date.

We did however find out that that the main difference was my collective management I flew Tims Avant and tried the same manuevers. I got the same results as with the Vibe.
