Hi there,
When I was looking around in the gallery and in my Heli Proz book, I noticed an aluminum tail rotor case for the Ergo and vigor.

Now I fly a Lil' Ergo 30 ccpm and was wondering if it is worth the $97 dollars Heli Proz wants for it.
Is any one using this upgrade and if so what are some of the benifits and or dissadvantages?

Thanks

Wes

I take it that you are referring to the HG metal tail gearcase?

If so then no disadvantages whatsoever. Standard on Mr Sensui's Japanese championship winning JR Superios for the previous 5 years (apart from this year when he moved over to Kyosho) - need I say more?

The best tail gear case for the money. Use K&S 689 tail pitch change arm to go with it.

I got suckered by that heliproz ad when I was a newbie and like a dumb lemming, I got one for the Vigor that I had at the time. It didn't make my Viggy $100 better. Plus, the metal used in the upgrade kit isn't hard enough, it's very easy to strip the thread bolts if you overtighten them while assembling it. On the Ergo 30, the stock tail case is very durable and will not develop slop as long as you don't overtighten the belt.

Just because some guy bought one doesn't mean everybody needs it. The japanese are notorious for upgrades when CY proved once and for all that you don't need a fuse nor retracts to win WCs.

If you want the same performance, just upgrade the plastic gears where the belt wraps (pulleys) to the metal ones. It will do just as good at less than half the price. The single pitch tail rudder lever is also fine, just make sure you check it for wear.

I respect Mr. Sensui highly. He wouldn't do an upgrade unless it's for performance reasons.

Stock Superio comes with the same single pitch tail rudder lever as Ergo. Mr Sensui used the K&S 689 on it, and so do most people who get a Voyager IMZ 50. I wonder why . . . . ?

I never overstrip the threadbolts. I make sure that there is sufficient locktight and that's all.

And I respect Tommi Makinen too, but that doesn't mean I will upgrade my Mitsubishi Lancer to an EVO VII when he was still with Mitsubishi.

The Ergo 30 is a entry level heli and an upgrade that costs 25% of the cost of the kit itself isn't going to make it fly like the V50 IMZ no matter how much upgrades you throw at it.

SKS I didn't know you and Sensui were buddies.... sounds like Jason.net has some competition. At least Jason has pics to prove it.

I have two of them. I got them from Cyberheli for around 80 bucks I think. One I needed because the stock ergo 30 tail case is too big to fit in a scale ship. The other I got simply because I didn't want my 3-d heli to have a worse tail case than the scale ship, and I might as well make it 2 since I was getting them from Hong Kong. How's that for a sad reason?

So performance wise, I don't notice a huge difference, definately not a 100 difference. I'm not into backwards flight yet so I don't know if I'm really qualified to make that judgement call. I do like the way it looks, and with the metal tail pitch lever it has no slop. I don't know where Dave_D is getting that it is easy to strip. I've had to take the one for the scale ship off and put it back on many times, and never had a problem.

Another option is to check out DNHPs upgrade tail case. Its basically the same thing for cheaper.

And yes you can throw enough upgrades at a Ergo 30 to outperform a IMZ, but it would cost so much that theres not much point in doing it.
