e-MS Composit Hornet > Vibration without head or tail on

Hi,

I'm setting up my X3D at the moment trying to get it as smooth as possible.

I have run it with out the tail attached and with only the main shaft and main blade grips but I have a slight vibration or it's not as smooth as I would like.

Using the Twister motor, main shaft isn't bent.

I have no play in the main shaft (up and down) but the main gear will move up and down, is that normal ?

Any ideas ?

Simon.

Hi Simon

The main gear should not move up or down as that would affect the gearmesh and you will strip gears
Have you got the spacer fitted between the main gear and the lower bearing ??
Have you checked your flybar balance
Is your tail drive free and not binding
Gear mesh from the motor pinion not too tight

The world is round you can run but you will always end up where you started from

Hi,

Didn't come with any spacer, also the manual does't show one.

Flybar isn't on yet, neither is any of the tail. It's just the motor, main gear, main shaft and head block.

Gear mesh seem's ok.

I'm thinking he must be referring to the lock collar. Did you try loosening the allen screw then squeeze the bottom of the main shaft and lock collar with your fingers. While holding it firmly tighten the screw.

I believe he's referring to the thick washer that fits on the the main shaft between the main gear and the lower bearing/frame just as he said. I don't remember though if this spacer is used with the stock gear or just the one-way gear.

The older H2 auto gear has that thick washer... i just checked the pics for the x3d.... there's no washer... only the sleeve.... so just put on the main G first then engage the conical gear...

That's interesting, I have an original H2 kit and it did not come with a washer? I did shave a hair off the main gear for a proper fit. I don't have any up and down play.

while it is spinning look at the main gear. IS it moving ?
I discovered that the clutch sleve goes all the way Up to the Ball bearing. And the tail conical gear will fit in nicely when attached:)

another thought is that the E077,s in the head (main blade bolt inserts.) is not flush against E075, are both bolts dun up tight enough to hold them both the same distance from centre. give a tug on both blade grips in the same way centrifugal forces would. to make sure they the E077 inserts are all the way in.

you are going about it the right way to get a smoth running heli.

keep us informed.

Hi Guys

I seem to have misplaced my instruction booklet that came with my h2 so I can't at this time check to see if the washer/spacer is supposed to be there in between the main gear and lower bearing block.
It could be an abnormality with my hornet and I fitted the washer/spacer to get the gear mesh correct.
I have looked on the ms site at the instructions and there is no part number for this item.
Now where are my destructions for the H2 I know they are around here somewhere

The stock non one way gear for the H2 does not come with the a spacer. The spacer is molded in to the gear itself.

Simon
Are you able to push the main gear up?

Hi,

I have the one way unit E316 attached to the main shaft and flush at the bottom with the main shaft as per manual. I have this pushed as far as possible into the main gear then while pushing the bottom of the main shaft and holding down on E067, I tighten the grub screw of E067.

This gives no play up and down in the main shaft but the main gear will still move up and down 1 or 2mm unless I have the tail boom in then the rear drive E618 stops the main gear from moving up and down.

I tried running it without the any of the head attached, just the main gear and main shaft. Still a slight vibration. Can't see anything bent but you can feel it in your hand while holding the skids ?

E316? Guess the X3D has a new way-way hub. Unless that's the whole E230 one-way hub package minus the main gear.

On the H2 E230 set, E116 is the one-way sleeve that fits inside the E111 one-way hub. The E117 spacer should go between the hub (E111) and the frame/bearing (E401/L0360) for proper fit and gear mesh.

Sounds like your main gear/hub assembly is behaving oddly. May as well try a new main gear/hub assembly if only to rule it out.

I looked over the X3D manuals and couldn't find any mention of a spacer between the hub and frame. Guess it's all different from the H2.

BTW do you think the motor is causing the vib. Try taking it out and spin it up. Maybe the outrunner can is causing the vib.

Or one of the teeth on the main gear or pinion is not true.
