e-MS Composit Hornet > Hornet II Main Blades hitting tail rotor blades

I just bought a Hornet II from some guy but don't know if the tail boom was modified. Here's what happened, I received the package and he included a pair of CF symetrical 260mm blades which I threw them on and spooled her up. Well everything was ok till I pulled back on the elevator stick and it took out my tail rotor blades. It broke the pitch slider deal from the tail rotor. After measuring up, the main blades can easily take out the verticle fin and servo. Does anyone know what the measurements are on the stock tail boom for the Hornet II, mine measures exactly 11" or 279.4mm? If I do have a stock tail boom then what could be the problem, I though the H2 was supposed to have a longer tailboom than the cp? Even if I spin the main blades by hand it will hit the tail rotor on every other turn. Looking at my honey bee cp2, with both the tail blades and main blades fully extended, they are still inches away from hitting each other Honey Bee has a 12" tailboom..Looking at the hornet the main blades could almost rest on the verticle fin thats way back by the tail gears..hhmm someone help..
Thanks,
D

Thats not normal. I run 257mm blades and there is still a good gap. Are you using the stock tail blades? Maybe the tailboom was shorten

Thats what I'm thinking cause the tail rotor blades are stock. I've got both the white plastic and carbon fiber pair. I asked the guy that sold it to me and he said thats the way he got it. He only flew it with the flat bottom blades though. Those are much shorter than the symmetrical blades. I just need to know how long the tailboom should measure. Thanks

I believe the H2 tail boom is around 12.5in (315-320mm).
Total main rotor disk should be 560mm.

hhmm that sounds more like it, so this one was shortened an inch and a half. Why the hell would you do that for?? Maybe to use the flat bottoms but still..

well seems to me that maybe this Hornet II was built using the regular cp tailboom. Even the tail rotor driveshaft is shorter and it doesn't seem to have been modified. It looks stock but like I said maybe from a different model. Everything looks clean from the manufaturer

That's what I was just thinking after I replied.. I picked up a platinum boom from my LHS and found it was meant for the CP which was a lot shorter.

do you know where I can get a tailboom for my H2? I checked hellihobby but it's just listed as MS CF tailboom. Don't know if it's for the cp or h2. I saw the platinum one the've got but again don't know if its ment for the cp.

The frame base is a hornet II and everything else seems to be the same.

Well asuming its just the boom I would tend to think that you would need a new carbon drive shaft as well. I don't see how you could fit an H2 shaft in a hornet or cp boom... way too long

maybe he broke the boom so he shorten it a lil and shorten the tail drive shaft too.

Take a look at blade-x thread on his mod for a 3mm tail drive shaft. You should try it out. Works great

Cp boom is 6.9mm dia and 260mm (10 in) long.
H2 boom is 7.9 dia and 285mm (11in) long.
My 258mm blades clear my 11 boom just fine.

Are you sure the blades aren't 315's? That would do it.

Do you by any chance happen to know if the H2 and the new x3D's tailboom is the same size?
