e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Century HB Elite CP questions

Hi,

I am re-building my Elite CP and I have a few questions :

1. The Antirotation bracket (cne216) can rotate slightly which seems obviously wrong, should I try to (re)glue this ? is it the Mast Tower (cne214) that it needs to be fixed to ? I'm scared of gluing it to the mast by mistake

2. I read there was a thinner mast collar available to help get 3D levels of pitch travel but I cannot now find it on the web, does anyone know where I can find one ? Alternatively can anyone tell me how thick (thin) the measurements of the hop-up mast collar is so I can make one myself ?

3 Which of the aftermarket parts are worth getting ? I mean from the p.o.v of aerobatics not bling. I am considering the Machined Rotor Head (cne251)and the metal swashplate (cne259) but what about the Blade Grips (cne258) ?

4. Does anyone know if the Battery Holder (cne320) from 3D Pro will fit the Elite CP ? I assume not but would be grateful if anyone can give me pointers to securely retaining Li-Poly batteries in the Elite CP.

Thanks in advance,

Boo

hey boo,

welcome. i had an elite CP briefly (which i ditched for the 3dpro). but, i did become intimately familiar with it in that short time.

i used a sewing straight pin to apply a very small dot of CA to the inside of the antirotation bracket. press it quicly on the mast and it will hold still. using just a 'dot' will allow it to break away easily with a twist when you need to service it...but, is sufficient to hold it still in flight.

helihobby.com carries these still, i believe. whether you choose to give them your hard earned money is another subject really all you need to do is take a grinder and pull as much of the material as you can off the top and bottom of the stock collar without interfering with the set screw. unlike the tolerances in the rest of the heli, its not that critical here. you're just trying to lower the negative pitch throw...so the more you can create the better. it's not even critical that the top side of the collar be perfectly flat....mines kinda rounded when i got a little carried away with the dremel. works fine.

swash helps cyclic response for sure; the main grips are needed to increase negative throw (there's an extra hole on it from stock giving it more throw); the tail grips definitely eliminate some wag--but, there's a cheap fix for that involving shimming the stock grips with washers, and shimming the blades themselves. search for the post by 'zoom'; also, the stock woodies are crap. get some like90s if you like wood, or the century CFs are good, too. there is other purple bling, but, IMO didnt make that much difference. but, the RChelitech beltdrive mod is EXCELLENT, as are his strut upgrades (the stock ones are made out of cornchips i think...very fragile)

can't help with that one...never ran lipo on my CP---part of the problem i had, me thinks. wait for someone else to chime in, but i'm almost 100% sure the lipo mounts for the 3dpro will fit the CP. then, just use some orings or rubberbands to secure the lipos to it.

good luck.

if it ain't broke…break it.

The battery holder will not work. It would be right on top of the main gear on an Elite. The 3 D pro has a 2 step frame.

correct you are GB.

in that case, if you're running the stock landing gear, you can completely remove the nimh battery holder so you only have the two parallel CF rods running front to back. a short strap or two of velcro can secure a lipo to hang from these rods.

if it ain't broke…break it.

On question 3, Cuda I believe you are talking about the tail blade grip. On Elite CP there is no such thing.

For main shaft collar, you can use CNE024 $4.75 which is much thinner than stock CP one. It's for a HB V2

3D Pro? I have only "1D" under my belt, what am I going to do with "3D"?

Did I mention I don't remember anyone kept their Elite CP to fly as a 3D bird? Could be just me. I think what may help Boo is to use a 3D Pro head instead. They 2 are almost same, but the seesaw system is much different. I think the 3D Pro Seesaw really makes it fly much better and worth of some 3D action. No need to put the CNC ones on, just try the plastic ones first.

Just my 2 Cents.

Boo. Try a 3D pro. Much better. No tail motor.

Hi All,

Speaking to question one, the antirotation part moving; mine moves a little and I've had no problems.

As to getting the CP version flying 3d, I can't speak to. I have a couple fp for indoor flying and a 3dpro for more exotic flying.

Cheers,
Leslie

Thanks to all for the answers and especially the heads-up wrt HH . I will try the velcro trick for battery retention as well as a dot of CA for the antirotation bracket.

I am not at a stage where 3D is actually that important atm but I wanted to get a setup that can do it when I am. From what I've read it seems that the 3D Pro is a better bet but for now I will just rebuild my Elite with the Lightning motor and see how I get on. I will note the upgrades suggested and pony up as and when when I break stuff

Thanks again,
