e-Quick Of Japan EP-8/10/16/18 > QJ8 - ESC Recommendations

Hello All,

I think I may need a new ESC. I am using two 3S 2100 in series.

Which ones do you recommend?

Here is the sob story on my old ESC:

I finally got my QJ8 all set up and ready to go. I am using two 3S 2100 packs in series for my power source. I had an old Kontroniks Smile 50-6-18 in my spares box so I soldered it in and gave it a whirl. This ESC has been used sucessfully on a Logo 10 with no larger than 5S packs. When I spool up, it gets to a nice headspeed for about 10-15 seconds then cuts off abruptly. Neither the battery or ESC is hot. Very weird. If you think there is hope for this ESC, let me know. Otherwise, can you recommend a good one for the QJ8?

Thanks Folks,

Mike

Hi Anni,

And with an external BEC too?

Magic

That's the magic of the Jazz controller. 6S and under doesn't require an external BEC. It's awesome. Literally plug and play. They are worth the extra $$$ in my opinion which isn't really worth 1/2 a cent.

I use hyperion 50A opto controller and I like it. It is smooth and runs cool.

This is the hyperion z3019-10 motor, rated 1070KV.
I run it with 4s 14,8V polyquest 3300XP packs, with 15T pinion I get 2400 rpm head speed at full throttle about +5 degrees pitch hovering.
At full pitch drops to 2200 rpm hs.
So I set a throttle curve to get 2200 rpm in all pitch positions.
You don't need faster head speed with this heli. It is stable at head speeds starting from 1700 rpm, for safety reasons it is not recommended to exceed 2400 rpm head speed, but you don’t need to either.
Make a web search for more info about the motor.

I bit the bullet and ordered a CC Phoenix 45HV. It was hard to find. I hope it will do the trick. Now for the week or more wait...

There might be a new 14 pole outrunner's ESC choice, for Hacker A30 series + QJ-8..

http://www.align.com.tw/shop/produc...162&language=en

Supporting maximum RPM:2poles=>190,000rpm but hadle only up to 6S Lipo. Just not sure how well it would wrok!

But I still just ordered my CC Phoenix 45HV from here http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...p?&I=LXLBY3&P=7 , hope I will have good luck with it!

@ Rastaman
I don't have any video of my bird flying. I'm not a 3d pilot either. You can download this video http://proxy.f2.ymdb.yahoofs.jp/use...Cv9LQEBinuNVeDN
that is an EP-8 flying with hyperion Z3019-10 motor.
Note that you can't run more than 4S with this motor. I use 15T pinion with PQ 4S 3300XP packs and getting close to 15min of sport flying.

Well, I received my CC45HV and it was a dud out of the package. Damn! It is always hit and miss with Castle Creations. When are they going to get their act together?

I had the same problem with two of their products: A 35 and a 25. I blamed it on the crappy Himax motor. Maybe I should not have been so quick to judge.

If I decide to jump ship on the CC 45HV, do you think a Schulze Future 18.46K is overkill for this heli? I'll be using two 3S packs in series (6S).

Yikes. This is turning into the $350 ESC project. Ordered the Schulze Future 18.46K. Oh well, at least when I list for sale my new 45HV from CC, people will know it works. Usually it takes getting an ESC direct from the factory and bench tested to be sure. That's what happened with my CC80 and now it works fine. Shoulda coulda woulda...

Hi synchro505,

Can't find what motor are you using now. If you are using Hacker A30 series motor, the Schulze ESC may not be best idea, it will not drive A30 up to 20000 RPM.
