Beginners Corner > Using a Futaba T6XAs as a Heli Radio?

For some reason after playing around with the helis in FMS I have been bitten by the bug and want to give them a go.

I have a Futaba T6XAs transmitter and the Futaba website says it can be used for heli flying.

What I need to know is from real world experience is this a workable solution, or am I giving up too much by trying to use this transmitter?

What functions is the T6XAs missing that are important?

It will probably end up being used with a Raptor 30, if this is important.

They have the same programming

the only difference is the location of some switches, on the aircraft version the switches are on the left that are on the right of the heli version. It is workable and will allow you to fly your heli with no problems.
Have fun and welcome to RC Helis

Sorry, I may not have been clear enough. I do know that the 6XAs and 6XHs are the same transmitter and that I can set my 6XAs to heli mode by going into the parameters menu.

What I was really after was information comparing the 6X*s to the 8U and 9C heli radios.

Should I sell my 6XAs and replace ith with either a 8UHPS or a 9CHP?

If I don't replace it and go with the 6XAs what features am I going to miss?

I'm thinking that I need the receiver, servos, battery etc. for the heli anyway, so if I get a new 8U or 9C radio I will have the gear for the heli and then I can sell the 6XAs.

But if I don't really need the transmitter upgrade, I would save the money for a GY401/S9253 combination.

If you can afford it, upgrade the radio.

The T6X is a very basic heli radio, it only has 3 point throttle and pitch adjustment and is very inadequate for 3D and more advanced flying.
the T6X will work, but you will want to upgrade very soon if not now.
I used the T6XA for a while, but I got the 8UHF and the difference is like night and day. Much easier to get the heli the way you want it with the higher end radios.
if money is tight, then the T6X will work well enough for you to learn to hover and do basic FF.
The new 9C looks awesome and is priced well, I dont recall if the T6X has Idle up or throttle hold and has only one knob for hover pitch adjustment. the others have hover pitch and throttle knobs for instant adjustments.
the 5 point curves and different modes are worth the upgrade alone.

Yes, my manual does show the idle-up and throttle hold ability on 2-way switches at the top left and right of the TX. These switches are retracts and elevator/flap mixing in the plane mode. Hovering pitch is on a knob normally used for flaps in planes.

I have almost sold myself on a new 9CHP anyway. I have figured that having to buy the receiver, servos, battery, switch harness etc. anyway plus the offset in cost by selling the T6XAs, it wouldn't be that much difference in just buying the 9CHP or 8UHPs.
