What does this go on? Looks like it might be a lighter version of the HD box? If so, I think I want one, if it will work ..

Very nice Mal. I had to laugh when Chris told me you wouldn't put the HD tail box on because you didn't like the way it looked on your .90 This one looks like it meets with your approval

Coming soon to a Bergen manufacturer near you.

Larry just ordered some gears for the first production run so I'm sure it won't be long. Some of the guys are getting theirs as we speak.

Actually I didn't want the HD one on my 90 because of the added tail weight (2+oz. if I recall). I already removed my horizontal fin to get the CG just so. This gearbox is less than an oz. heavier than the previous one with the addition of larger gears, 6mm input and output shafts, extended travel and the HD tail hub.

This was just one of numerous tweeks and improvements that get looked at on a constant basis around the Bergen shop. I was just happy to get the chance to take part.

It survived everything I could think to put it through. I even tried to channel a little H to the C (as was put so eliquently elsewhere) and put it through some stuff I couldn't think of. It came out laughing at my efforts with a few unexpected bennies to boot.

All in all, I think it'll make a nice addition to an already great helicopter line.

On my happy, but a bit tired and slightly frightened, 90. LOL

Actually Shawn, It would have been a slightly nicked tailboom.

Nice!

Nice Job, Malorie! A lightweight bulletproof tail! Looking forward to buying it ... the best of both worlds.-

Any idea how that will affect the need to add forward ballast on the EB gasser? YIPPEE for a lighter tail!!

Math lesson ensues...

Basic lever math:
Take the distance from the mainshaft to the tail (in this case aprox. 40 inches) divided by the distance from the mainshaft to the counter weight (I'm assuming in the nose, say 10 inches, just a WAG). That's a ratio of 4:1, so 1 ounce in the tail needs 4 ounces in the nose to maintain your current CG. So 2 ounces in the tail would need 8 ounces in the nose for a total of 10oz. or over half a pound.

This math lesson brought to you by Mal'-Adjusted University (You just can't get any more Mal'-Adjusted then learning from Mal'-Adjusted-U)

Shawn,
Actually not. There aren't any gears right now and the bellcrank mount and pitch slider on mine are prototypes. The production stuff is still in the works. But I guess if you wanted to consider the raw material as being there then yes.

I saw the new box when I was in Vegas last weekend. It was actually the first time I got to see a Bergen heli up close. The quality and workmanship of these helis is amazing. I've got a Bergen on my wish list now.
