I've got a Corona 120 with a Mega 16/15/3 and a CC 35 controller. I've been using 7 cell NiMH 3700 mah batteries. I'm not getting much in terms of flight time - only about 5/6 min. I like the battery packs because of the weight and balance but need to improve time and power.

I've also got an older 3 cell 2100 mah li-po (came with the corona) that gives a little more time and power but it needs to be rubberbanded to the nose in an upright position to balance. I was about to buy another 2100 li-po from this forum but I just don't like the setup in the nose.

Any suggestions for time and power?

There's a fine line between hobby and obsession - guess which side of the line I'm on.

I'm running the same setup, except I have a CC45. I'm getting 10 plus minutes. I am assuming you are running the stock 9 tooth pinion and your gear mesh is set right on all 3 pairs of gears.
I am running a pair of 4 dot grips. Try switching to that, if you still get low times, maybe your batteries are shot.

Weird... I, too, run that setup (7 cell 3500 mAH, 16/15/3, CC 45), and get around 10 minutes. I have 2 6-grips, so my headspeed is pretty low, which probably helps - it just makes wind a very engaging experience. :0

I'll be running the 3500 8cell with an Astro brushless. I have it velcro'd to the side of the crutch and the balance looks good. Do you guys also use the battery clips or do you just use another velcro strap to hold the battery in place?

I have the aluminum crutch, and I need to strap the battery in with a long velcro strap because a small impact can pop the battery right out of the clips....

When I had the stock crutch I thought it better to have the batteries pop out to dissipate some of the impact force. I also liked the batteries up on the crutch instead of slung below. Less of a pendulum effect.
