Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > XL C/F tailboom installation?

Ive got a Q for the XL owners, Ive just received a C/F tailboom for my XL60 and the Min-Air instructions say to super glue the front to the tailboom frams clamps. Is this a must? As it already feels tight. Also Im concerned about splitting it at the rear as the tail trans fits very tightly and already cracked it about a 1/8, I already removed the little plastic **** from around the tail trans, do I need to sand it down more until its loose so it wont crack down the rd? The instructions state how to tighten things up but nothing about loosening, just my usual luck......Thanks in advance, Oldheliman41

tail boom

Hmmm....I have used a drop (with the emphasis on drop)of ca to hold the boom in the plastic housing. Take a picture of the crack and show us. Usually once the tail housing is installed, it becomes looser over time and easier to remove. I wouldn't sand anymore off the housing.

Hi Conrad,
The tiny crack is where the notch is placed to keep the tailtranny from rotating, I adjusted the notch and it helped as the crack dosent open up when I insert the tail unit now. I think Ill go ahead and put a small amount of ca in the crack location before installing the tail assy. and once the verticle fin holders are in place hopefully it will be ok. I was worried that if I had a crash that the ca would complicate removal later on. Dave

Fixed!

Sounds like you have it Fixed!!! You'll be able to get the boom loose after a crash even with the drop of ca. If it doesn't slide out, then pull the 4 bolts and then pop off the housing. It works!

Its the back end that has the crack not the front, where the tailblade unit slides in there is a notch to stop it from rotating, thats where it cracked. The tailfin bracket that attaches to it W its 3 screws just covers it up so I figure the ca will strenghten it and protect it hopefully. Im probably worring about nothing but ya never know when it comes to upgrades. Dave

I used Silicone Glue, its holds the boom in place and will come apart easily when time to disassemble.
