Alright guys, I'm looking for a little more out of my transmiter I own a 8Uhps and I want custom switches better curves and more capability. I also want 1 more channel.
So the 9Z WC2 is availible today. It's the best Futaba makes. The 9C is coming in a month or so and looks nice. I don't need extra servo's I also don't like the fact that they are saying the 9C is going to have 9001's as the best servo. Hmm, Bad idea GP. I normally would be more patient but I bounce checked my 8Uhps and it needs repair work. It still works but it's hurting. I don't want to send it in and wait till I get it back.

I was considering maybe.... a JR 10 NAAAh, I have all Futaba equipment and that would be dumb.

Tell me what you guys think of the 9Z WC 2, Is it worth the 900 for the TX and Module? What's your opinions? Or just get another 8Uhps and have 2. For what it's worth I have the money, just not sure what to do.

I choose the 10X for the simpler straight forward programing. There are certain things with the 10X that are much easier to do than the 9Z.

I do like the 9Z's spiked control sticks. I wonder if they fit on the 10X?

What JR and dumb in the same sentence? AAAAAHHHHHH!!!

You crack me up. LOL

I really like my 10x. It only cost me $40 for the raffle tickets so it really rocks twice as hard now. It is way easier than my 783 to program, and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside just to hold it (Kinda like you swallowed a cat. LOL)

I got away from futaba when I was a kid and never went back, so I can't comment on the Futaba stuff, except that the new one they came out with all the blue, looks straight up funky. (That is George Clinton talk for "Rather delightful")

I guess I don't understand the hub bub about assignable switches. I get used to them and the way they work, and in a short time am able to use them instinctively, please enlighten me Futaba Gurus, I seek your wisdom.

Maybe the cat thing isn't part of Futaba either? Would that be a benefit?

Good luch with your new futaba.

Ivan

To buy or Not to buy

I own two 9Zs. One WC and the other a WCII and love them both. I've owned & flown the JR10Z version, the 10SXII and a JR8103 but decided to stick with the 9Z simply because I had all these Futaba parts (Tx modules, Rx and Rx Xtals etc.)

IMHO, if you have awhole lot of investment in the Futaba brand, buy the 9Z. I do, however, like the simplicity of setting up the JR stuff but given time, you'll also get to know the 9Z and it's programming settings.

Buy the WC2

Ken,

You'll love the radio. I have a couple of 10Xs a 8103 and I recently bought the WC2. It's a much better featured radio but a bit more difficult to program. Nevertheless it's worth learning the programing and opening a new world of possibilities that you just can't have with the 10X.

resolution

the 9z has better resolutions across the channels than the equivalent JR, good for helis.

Since you've already got Futaba equipment you shouldn't find it that hard to program a 9Z.

Blue anodizing, need we say more.

I've decided

Yep, I decided to get the 9z WC2. Many reasons for it.
I like the all programable switches. I like the fact that of the 4 Futaba recievers I have I won't have to replace any. I like the support I get from Futaba, Horizion and I have had problems. I like the fact that so many have said many good things about the 9Z WC2. The only negative I have heard is it is tough to program.

I'm up to the challenge! Now... To go Synth or not to go Synth... I think I am going to get the Synth TX module but skip the RX. Just can't see a need for a Synth RX at my level of flying.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

synth

At the fun fly over the weekend most of the reps were saying the synth RX doesn't work well in a heli, great in a plane.

Too much vibration/noise perhaps. A couple of people were saying that it doesn't always initialize first time, and it takes a few false starts.

After seeing , you know who, get confused and flying his jet set on 22 with his flag in 20(since he usually flies 20), i think the old fashioned way is just as good! =) Yet another step to check..

Since you can't(shouldn't) change the XTAL in the module, getting the synth module is probably a good idea, and Futaba are half band tuned in the receiver you can switch XTAL anywhere in your half band, (which is another difference between futaba and JR, JR is center band tuned so you can switch to any frequency)

CharlieX,

JR made the decision of having a single band receiver so it was easier to manufacture and to QC them but by doing that they decided they would not make receivers in channels 11 to 15 because it would be too wide for a single receiver circuit. That's why there are no JR radios on 11 to 15.
I understand their need for easier manufacturing but losing channels 11 to 15 from an already scarce set of frequencies is not too smart.
BTW the rumor that they decided to do that to prevent people from crashing due to interference in those channels is unfounded. The real reason is less altruistic and more business like and what people call "interference on the low channels" is the result of trying to use crystals on channels 11 to 15 in a receiver circuit not designed to go that far in the band.

thats interesting i did not know that JR didnt cover the full range, explains a lot.

yeah usually the explaination of these things is far less sinister than most people would have you believe.

I've decided to go ahead and get the 9Z WC2, Adding a Synth module for the radio too. Also ordering a 149 reciever. I don't think I need the Synth receiver...yet.

Now I have questions for you 9Z owners, Other than the Futaba web site does anyone have a good site that covers this radio?

I want to know how it interacts with the GY401, GY601 and the GV-1. All the details. If anyone has this data please hook me up.

I have already downloaded the manuals from Futaba too.

Cheers!

No JR radios on 11-15?? Yikes!!! I've been flying on the channel 15 pin at the field for six months with my 10SXII because the freq. board said 72.090 WAS channel 15...lucky me I guess. I just can't wait to e-mail my buddy who is on channel 14 flying JR radios in his Turbines ($10,00.00+) that his Rx isn't REALLY on channel 14...gee..I guess I better call Shreveport EMS first...he's gonna have a heart attack! I really think JR does cover the whole frequency spectrum allotted to the AMA...however; I could be wrong...Chris

volkul, if you haven't already, join the 9Z group on Yahoo Groups. You'll find yourself knowing more about the 9Z than you ever wanted to know about any radio.

Jr Radios on channels 11 to 15

Maxx,

I made a mistake and included ch-15 in the frequencies not available for JR radios the channels are 11 to 14. Now if your buddy has a JR radio that's on ch 14 it's only because him or the previous owner bought a crystal and changed the frequency.

We at the club had a conference call with the Horizon guys and they told us you can't get JR radios on CH-11 to CH-14.

They sent us a list for the available crystals. Here's the one for dual conversion:

As you can see, the part number is JRPXDR?? where ?? is the channel number.
If you do a search for JRPXDR11 or JRPXDR14 at the horizonhobby.com website (http://www.horizonhobby.com/services/search.asp) you'll see you can't find those part numbers.

So if you have a radio on channels 11 to 14 it would be advisable to have them retuned just to make sure they're not drifting.
