| I know this doesn't exactly apply, but a friend of mine on team iFiber Redwire got a 125mile 11megabit 2.4GHz connection with an unamplified wireless adapter at this year's DefCon Wifi Shootout...granted, the antenna was a bit larger than usual. I'd say 25miles isn't impossible with a small air-born omni-antenna and 100mA, but you'd need the ground antenna to be larger and highly directional. Also, the required throughput is going to be a very important factor with respect to feasibility. If you're ambitious, you could have the ground antenna actuated to vector it toward the heli's reported GPS location. Unfortunately, I'm unaware of anything like this presently in the commercial sector. My best advise is to buy some different equipment configurations, and experiment until you find something that works. |
