Folks:

Is the CC 80 plug and play - if not, what suggestions are good in programming for the swift.

Config:

Swift w/
NEU Ork 1907
CC PHX 80
Futaba 3151's
Tanic 6S1P 3650 ( or 2 Duralite evo 3 cell in series)
Futaba 401 w/ 9254
Rotortech main and tail blades

Thanks for all your responses.

It's not plug and play as it has many variable settings, the defaults usually being those you don't want for a heli! You can download the instructions from Castle Creations website but if you're going to buy more CC speed controllers then the PH-X link is worthwhile as you can program the ESC via the USB port on a PC, the alternative is lots of stick movement to program.

You may get many suggestions for the P80 setup, my preference would be: -

Cut Off Voltage - 4V
Current limiting - Disabled
Brake type - Disabled
Throttle Type - not sure with this motor
Electronic Timing Advance - Standard advance (default)
Cut Off Type - soft cutoff
Soft Start - soft start (default)
PWM - Option 1 (default)

These don't protect the speed controller or battery but means you shouldn't have a motor cut in flight plus it's fairly obvious when voltage is dropping and I'm a firm believer in timing flights & checking the amount of mAh's that go back in.

Don't forget to remove the red wire from the ESC plug into the receiver and run a seperate battery pack or seperate UBEC as 5S is well outside the ESC's BEC capability.

As i'm using a tango 45-10 motor...here's my setup in the order to which to program.(I had called tech support at CC and YES, they told me to cut middle signal wire...also in manual...but I removed and taped) If you use 6s batt to program before cutting wire, it will melt shrink wrap in a specific spot due to heat dissipation.

I did not purchase USB as stick programming was cinch...only 8 settings.

I have same lipo as you...I'm also using a 1100 nic batt for electronics.

Best of luck!

I would recommend not cutting the middle wire as all three are needed for USB progamming & firmware updating, I just ease the plastic retaining clip up and pull the centre wire & pin out, taping it back so it's still useable. I did think about fitting a switch but that's probably going too far

If you have cut the wire already, you can still use the USB programmer if you attach a battery to the ESC.
