I looking into getting some info on where to find a flybarless head for a 30 size shuttle. i have not been able to find a 2 bladed, flybarless head for a 30 size machine at all. Is there a way to convert the standard rotor head to a fb'less head by taking out the unnessesay components and using a swashplate follower?? I am currently working on a scale 222 for the next competition here in florida and am curious to if the detration of the 20 points for having a flybar head is worth the extra control response.

any help is greatly app.

yeah that was for an old GMP legend, a 60 size heli. the shuttles head can easily be converted to flybarless two blade BUT, you will need to find blades that will make it fly nice. my advice is sacrifice the points for the head and practice your flying to make it up. flying a contest with a flybarless head especially if you are new to it is no walk in the park. if you do decide to go ahead with it, keep in mind that blades for a flybarless head are made differently than those for a flybarred head. they are heavier and have a very far forward located center of gravity in the blade chordline. you can experiment with various blades for flybarred systems and may find a set or two that may work well. having a gyro on the fore/aft channel would help with this in forward flight.

I am essentially makeing my 30 shuttle into a 40-50 size machine sence they will be going into the 50 size 222 fuselage. I will most liky be running a toki .40 if my 32 doesnt cut it with 600 blades and a GPH tail boom and belt. I may just experiment with making the stock head flybarless if you say its not to difficult. If i dont like it enough ill just put the regular head gear back on.

I finally broke down and bought the swashplate follower to make my shuttle flybarless. Well i came to realize that a shuttle 30's mast is 8mm and the follower is 10 cursing.gif no biggie. i went down the the hardware store and picked up a piece of brass and a peice of stanless tubing and cut shims out of it. now i have a 7mm swashplate driver! Also sence i will be putting her into a 50 funkey 222 i needed to get a GPH tailboom and belt to extend the tail, some 600 woodies for testing, and for some more ummph a toki 40. I already have a few flights on the engine and i love the power and rock solid idle.

Bear with me here, I'm trying to understand the conversion you have made. IF, I'm seeing this right, you removed the flybar/paddles and wash out assembly, clamped the swash plate follower to your mast, connected it to the swash plate (I assume that is the stock swash) then connected your links direct from the swash to the blade grips. Is this correct?
I too would like a flight report after you start testing. Seems like a much simpler arrangement even if another gyro is needed. Looks better as well. Wonder if that 2 axis gyro Futaba makes would work for both the pitch and tailrotor?????

Sorry guys i forgot to update on this thread, theres just so many heli forums out there i try to keep up with.

I couldnt even get the heli off the ground. It owould randomly pitch in any direction, and no matter how much input i gave it to try to correct the movement it would just keep pitching over. I said to myself in the beginning, that the flybar-less head was not my top priority. If I could get it to work without much trouble i would use it, but otherwise i just didnt feel like messing with it too much. So back on the flybar went.

About 18 years ago I read in helimagasin that it it was very difficoult to make flybarless Shutlle
So I wnt and maked one with standard head from my XX and some parts from and old kalt 28 and calleda friend of mine to test fly it due to I was a beginner at that time
I did one thing wrong, but he fixed that in 2 minutes and away it went
Ok but not good
So I modified the blades and installed about 15 gr of lead in the blades
And wow that heli was good
With the character of the full size
But much more power than before, and could use more pitch!!!
Speady like a rocket and outo like a 60
I think I used the heli for maybe 6 months

Could it be that the timing of the swashplate driver is off ? You can check Peter Wales' web page and in his book he shows how the timing is done. Also check out this website:

If you can fit 620 blades on i would look into the OF blade line from starwood.

I am having excellent results flying them on my flybarless Benzin.

I think the key, here, is the CG of your blades. Epoxy some lead near the leading edge at the middle of the blade's length and try.

The OF blades are heavy and are weighted farther out towards the tip.

The 620's are $95 for glass blades. Might be worth the look to see if they will fit.

I now am looking to install them on my 50 wolf.
