after performing the 6mm spindle upgrade with the grip flip i found the flight performance to be less than expected. i did not notice any more flight stability only a loss of control feel (like adding about 20 clicks of exp). i did have a full 6-7deg cyclic, and +-10 deg of collective with only 5 exp dialed in the radio for cyclic controls. i flew for one tank and reversed back to the stock setup and now it feels normal again. to me it made the bird feel lazy and lathargic for 3d flight. is it just me or is this what to expect. 1950-2000 rpm hs. oh and the seesaw pivot is in the inner mount for less stability. brian

Did you open up the hole through the head hub?

As Hoot said, I opened up the hole in my head and just put a few tanks through mine and my sons Tigers today and it was the best they've ever flown.

In stock form the hole that the head spindle passes through is only slightly larger then 5mm. I originally figured this out when I installed a KSJ 3D 5mm spindle that has the enlarged center section. I drilled the hole out there and I presume I won't have any trouble sticking my Heavy Duty 3D Grip/6mm spindle/bearing kit in when I crash next.

hi everyone, yes the hole was opened up a few months ago when i fitted a ksj hd spindle from a venture and i checked to make sure i didn't have a problem with the 6mm spindle. it's not that it flew bad, it's that it didn't have the same attitude, it made it feel like a heavier bird that was a bit lazy and didn't want to be pushed. brian

almost forgot, when i flipped back to the origional geometry i did use the upgrade parts and it flies just as the origional parts did.brian

did you cut down the height of the washout base? if you did, did you make sure that the bushing inside was still round and slid on the main shaft without any resistence?

Other then that, I can't think of anything else that could go wrong =\

washout base, yes i did machine down the base very carefully and it slides effortlesly as it did in the orgional state. and as i said i took all of these parts and reinstalled to the origional geometry and they worked fine. thanks brian.

The only thing I can see thats different than my setup is I used the new washout base that has holes on both sides so you install it like the stock one without having to cut down the longer side and flip it. I found that with the new composite washout without the inner bushing it removed the play and tightened everything up.

i could probably play with different paddles or weights, but i really like how the ship flies with the normal grip setup. i transferred all spindle upgrade hardware over to the stock blade holders with a custom drilled spacer and it still flies the way i like it to, but now the blade screws are pointing down. i guess i like the free nature that this geometry gives me to do 3d. thanks brian.

Initially I was not very happy with the performance of my Tiger after doing the flip with the new blade grips and new washout base.

I checked my pitch curves and they were way off. After spending a couple hours I was able to get +-14 degrees pitch out of them.

I had also done the white paddle mod. I trimmed an 1/8 off the leading edge of each paddle and used the rear hole. I was not happy with the cyclic response at all with that setup. The paddles were really light, 20 grams, but I think I had significantly reduced the area of them.

After changing to the TT greenies it is flying the best it has ever flown. I would like to hear what paddles that others are using.

While I was at it, I blue printed the washout and mixing arms to get rid of any slop. Pretty easy to do actually. Just unscrew the arm, slide the inner race out and sand the inside edge on a piece of 400 grit sandpaper. Lay the sandpaper face up on a table and make passes on the inner surface of the inner race/spacer on it. Take your time and you'll be able to remove just about all slop in the arms.

Be sure that you are NOT using the sheet metal screws in the blade grips to retain the bearings. They are NOT needed and will cause the grip to bind on the shaft. My grips where tight before the first flight. It did not take much for them to loosen up.

Also be sure that you have the thrust bearings in the right direction and greased up real well.

Sorry if I am preaching but I know this stuff from experience if you get my drift.

I experienced the same problem. I cannot figure out what I have done differently. I have looked at photos and the addendum to make sure I did everything correctly, and so far, it all looks right.

I went through everything and did a total re-setup of all my settings, etc, and so far I have not found the issue. I need a day of good weather and no interruptions to concentrate.

Yeah, like that'll happen!

thanks for the replys guys, i fly alone and have alot of garage time on my hands when the wife is at work(retail sales), and i have 10 acres of free space at my disposal 100 feet from my garage so i have always been in the r&d mode since i got into helicopters 4yrs ago. i have tried many combinations of paddles, greenies, venture 3d, stock venture, stock tiger, century pinks, all fly ok but for me i like the tiger white 3d paddles in the center hole. some may say that this make the chopper too sensitive but for me and my style thats just right. i guess my point is that with the flip i did not think that it made the ship more stable but only dulled the inputs from the swash. this is just my personal opinion but i wasnt sure if others were having the same findings as myself. i do like the added benefit of the bigger spindle though if nothing else that was worth it. brian.
