Thought I might start fresh on the subject of a YS 80 in a Fury. I got my kit for XMAS and Since there was a temporary lack of local YS60 engines I went with the 80. I purchased and installed the 11 tooth pinion. The Left frame was slotted but not the carbon plate. So I slotted the carbon plate and set the gear mesh. When I installed the motor it slid into place and seems to have bolted up perfectly. All appear square and all seems to turn smoothly. I will be a little bit from running it. (It is all done except for gyro and Hatori muffler) Did I get lucky? The only reason I ask is that my kit also came with shims which I did not use. The instructions seemed to imply that a 60 kit would not even have shims in it. (I think). It is a 60 Expert that I would assume to be the latest version from MA. I will probaly call MA just to be sure but wanted to see if anyone has run into this apparent good luck with the 80. Gear ratio is 8.45 to 1.

Carbon Plates

The graphite plates are not intended to be slotted. You are supposed to order the correct plates for the gear ratio that you are running. Since you are running 8.45 to 1(11-tooth and 93 main gear) then you need the motor mounts machined down slightly. My guess is that you have something crooked, if you have everything lined up and have not shaved down the motor mounts.
