I've got a QJ-8 kit on the way with no main rotor blades included. Which ones are you guys most happy with? MS Composite 385mm? 420mm? What size hole? 3mm? If 420mm what size tail blades? hole?

IM running 420's and love them but i know its an accident waiting to happen. If you dont fly hard 3D you shouldnt have any problems at all running the stock tail blades with these blades tho. What im doing for now is just not doing any maneuvers that use sudden extreme back cyclic or would cause the blades to maybe flex too much down towards the tail blades (tic tocs, stationary back flips). Im trying to work out a solution to stretch the boom and looking for a longer belt. I did have Viper 70 tail blades on it for awhile but wasnt happy with how the tail was holding with them. It wanted to slide out when flying fast backwards sometimes. This is also a solution that would work maybe for some people depending on their flying style. If i do stretch the boom im going to need to go to 8S instead of 6S to get CG correct tho.

Which spacers did you use on your 420s? My set came with two 2mm spacers and they were too thick.

The spacers that come with the blades are the right size. The root is 6mm and with 2 x 2mm spacers that makes it 10mm which is the same size as the stock blades. Its a tight fit but they will work.

But is MS 420 easy to get? It is not cheap right?

I have a additional question, do the EP-8 tail boom always comes with the tail case? Do we have to replase the whole boom/tail case set everytime?

Hey Synchro,

Just took my blades (stock Q of J) off my 8 to replace the spindle. The bolt hole is 3mm and the blade thickness at the hole is 10mm. Hope this helps. Those MS blades look pretty cool! I think they are the same price as the blades Quick used to provide. Quick will be providing another brand of "composite" blades soon.

Henry, did you bend your spindle? Did you have a crash? I hope not.

I'm gettin' closer and closer to a test spool up...

Bent the spindle cause I smacked the ground too hard. This thing falls out of the sky like a bullet when I drop the pitch. I have too much negative pitch for my skill level. I've been playing with the degrees but haven't found the sweet spot yet.

By the way, the MS blades are more than the QJs by about $20.00. GO with them anyway. The QJ blades are unavailable at the moment.

Just found out that Harold at Helicopter Hobbies will now be offering the MS 385mm carbon blades for the QJ8. I think they will be around $65.95/pair but don't quote me on the price! My memory is fading fast!

I bought the MS 395s since they are closer to the 400mm that was originally specd. The new wooden blades at 400mm will be available this week from Quick, they will be sold here for about $25 a set.

Hi guys,

I got some MAH 385's in today with 6mm root. I used 2 x 2mm spacers top and bottom and put the blades on and they tracked perfectly from the first spool up. I only hovered them and did some small climbouts with them inside but they seem very nice. I prefer longer blades but these work just fine. They seem to fly even better than the 400mm stock blades but i like the response of the 420mm better.

I just recieved my new woodies in the mail from Quick, I havent flown them yet, because its been raining here. Im quite surprised by the weight and quality. They are made by Trim Corporation of Japan.

New Woodies

twin,
Do you need spacers with the new woodies? If so, please provide the deminsions. I'm going to get a couple sets of these as I'm a newb. I don't want to ruin my MAH CFs until I've become a proficient hoverer. lol

Respectfully,
