I'm about to get a new sim now I've got a pc that's capable but it seems that G3 and XTR have been out for quite a while now. So I was woundering if anyone knew when G4 or XTR 2 would likely to be coming out?

Cheers guys

I wouldn't expect to see anything from either of those two vendors (major release that is) or a new sim of the same (or better) caliber coming out soon.

Except for possibly the Phoenix sim which is due out next month .

Pretty impressive, can't wait to try a demo! Just based on videos, both Reflex and G3 will have some new competition. Notice the auto at the end of the Buzzard vid, idle engine AND blade noise. The scenery looks good. Models looked a bit "modeled" but I'm sure with proper photo skins they can be made to look proper. Physics looked okay (hard to say from watching a video), but the potential is there. Supposedly going to be released this month. It seems to have a nice interface for tweaking model parameters as well.

The price is competetive too .

Looks superb, Reflex better get there game together what with crap customer care and no real significant updates. The just dont seem to listen to what people want. I feel a change coming.

They are going bankrupt paying lawyer fees to squeeze funds out of persons who bought a sim cable that has the ability to bypass the protection and play thier sim

Looked at the helicopter video, and looks like the physics will not be quite up to snuff. If you look closely at the video, you will see that some of the maneuvers that were performed are actually impossible to perform without interaction (the video shows absolutely no flight interaction). Looks like it may be a good training tool for first time flyers, but it doesn't appear to be accurate enough for the experienced flyer.

Mike - Do you think Reflex is more realistic than this new Phoenix sim then?

I currently have no sim but am looking for one ... The price of that Phoenix sim certainly looks encouraging.

Cheers,

You can't judge a sim by looking at just a video. You have to give it a good go, as in a demo or somesuch. Since this sim hasn't been released yet, I doubt anyone (other than beta testers) can say how it compares to Reflex, G3 or any other sim.

I own Reflex, G2, and G3. Amongst all of them, I personally prefer Reflex. Grantd, it takes a while to get it setup just-right, but once done, it is by far the most realistic flight simulator that I have seen. Gound effects are DEAD-ON, and the wind effect is completely randon (just like real life). Additionally, it has a hover trainer for newbies.

I'm fairly new to this and still leaning the lingo but what is flight interaction? and how can you see it? or not as the case is.

The rotation of the rotor head causes a slight interaction between the cyclic axis controls because of the gyroscopic effect of the rotating mass. Using the sticks, we can eliminate most of the gyroscopic interaction, but not all of it.

In helicopter flight, the incidence of rotation ALWAYS preceeds the incidence of movement. In layman's terms, the helicopter will ALWAYS tilt before it moves in ANY axis. Looking at the clip in slow motion, there was NO delay between the introduction of control and the physical movement of the machine ..... in reality, this is NOT possible.

The simulator looks good, but because of this lack of interaction, it is not really accurate enough for some pilots. It looks, however, to be a good starting simulator.

After looking at the videos in slow motion, I really can't see what you are talking about Mike. Perhaps any problems you might be seeing are down to the heavy cutting in that video?

I looked at the video frame-by-frame looking for the moment of incidence ..... couldn't find it!

I have seen the same thing in other simulators, and without this, proper physics cannot be implimented. A good example is ClearView. While it is not a bad simulator, the physica are not accurate. This simulator has the same issue as seen in the video.

I'm not saying that the sim will not be a good tool because it will be great for learning the basics. This basic moment of intertia is essentail to learn whenever you move on to the more advanced maneuvers however.

I'd have a closer look at the video before posting something like that Mike. Especially in the inverted hover section, and at the end of the autorotation - Rotor disk incidence is clearly visible. The video frame rate is a bit on the low side though so I can see why its easy to make that mistake.

I've flown a lot of sims, and to be honest there is simply no way that the video would fly that well with something core missing such as incidence - it just wouldn't.

Just looked at it again, and I did see the rotor dampening effect from autorotation (the reduction in the gyroscopic effect as the rotor head slows), but still did not see the moment of incidence. Maybe I am just a little picky about the physics.

Nah you're not picky. I noticed it right away too. Reminded me of FMS.. I'm too used to reflex I guess

Come on guys. I don't hold back when it comes to flaming sims. I'm sure my history of posts speak clearly about that.

But..
1. Visualisation is not the same thing as physics.
2. Seeing as this is a "3D Heli", I'm sure there's an insane RPM on the head, reducing the incidence.

I say we hold off on the critique until some of us have actually _tried_ it.

Oh, one more thing, if you wanna do more than to speculate, there's at least one of the beta-testers out there on an "alternative" forum..
