Kyosho Caliber 30 & 60 - Concept - Nexus > Caliber 30 Questions

Hi!

Im thinking about buying a Caliber 30 for the winter-month. Now I have some questions about it:
Has anybody used a 46-size engine in the Caliber?
Any problems about breaking plastic-parts?
Anything (the levers for example) that becomes looses?
I want to use it for 3D-training. Is 3D possible without upgrades? Which upgrades do you recommend?

That's all - for the moment.

Answers in the order they came in!!!

1. I used a Hirobo 36 which apparently outputs the same power as a 46. It is a very capable and highly performing machine like this.

2. Not crashed it yet, so can't comment about breaking parts on impact, but plastic parts are CHEAP!

3. The bell cranks became loose but I instead of using the phillips screws used nuts and bolts to hold them together. Just required a little drilling through the side frame to be able to put the nuts on.

4. They claim it is 3D capable out of the box, I certainly wouldn't doubt that. The machine is so fast and responsive I believe it could do anything. Me, I am not quite up to that stage yet to be able to tell you for sure, but it certainly flys like a rocket through the sky.

If you are after a 30 size machine, personally I do not know of a better one.

1. Nopes, using the incl. OS32

2. I did a "hard arrival" last weekend, and the only plastics that broke where CA3012 (might be wrong) Mixer Arm $16 - but I also bent the main shaft, spindle shaft, tail shaft, stab. bar and a body mount and the woodiel (replaced them with NHP´s) and the whole damage cost rushed up to $160 (1500SEK)

3. Everyting seems fine on mine.

4. From what I´ve heard and read its fulle 3D comp. out of the box. pitch range +/-10 deg.

Dont know about the prices in Germany but my guess is that its somewhere around the Swedish ones.

Good Luck and go for it

/Fredrik

Thanks

Hi!

Thanks for your answers. Now I have another question:
Can somebody compare the caliber30 with the jr/venture30cp?
Another guy from a club next to mine is very happy with it.

Venture vs. Caliber

Don't buy a Venture! They're buggy as hell and heavy machines for a 30. Its not unusual to send many parts back for warranty in your first year.

Two people at our club have a Venture and a Caliber. I was very impresed with the Caliber and the Venture is always on the bench being diagnosed for some funny noise......

We now refer to the Venuture as the Adventure....

For a cheap 30 machine you really have only 3 choices:

Caliber
Hawk
Raptor

I've got a Venture and a Caliber 30. The Venture is a bit heavy, a lot tail heavy, and the parts quality sucks for the most part. Actually had two Ventures. I had so many problems with the original that Horizon, to their credit, swapped it out after its fourth flight.

The second one has about 5 flights on it now, it is still heavy and still tail heavy. I'm running an OS 32SXH and a KSJ399 muffler. JR 662 radio/537 servos and a Futaba GY240 gyro. Lots of head speed (1800 or so), VERY aerobatic. Plastic covering on the stock wood rotor blades shredded in flight, at the rotor tips. This seems to be a common problem. Horizon sent me another set, different brand. One flight, and so far, so good. Look out for almost NO clearance between the main drive gear and the heli frame. JR has a new hub available that increases this distance a few thousandths of an inch, the machining wasn't all that great -- hole for the bolt not drilled on-center. Tail rotor authority is a bit weak.

Caliber 30. Light, agile, QUIET. OS 32 SXH, stock muffler is great. JR 662 radio/537 servos/Futaba 401 gyro. Exceptional quality and machining throughout. Cluch bell is plastic, but works great. CCPM setup is excellent. Tail rotor has great authority -- fast pirouette rate, stops on dime.

For the money -- go for the Caliber 30. Much higher quality heli, flies great. Parts availability through HeliProz is great. (Yeah, they do crash just like every other brand!)

hello

I bought yesterday my second caliber 30 and i love it ! I will never bought a raptor 30 anymore, on 3 raptor, 2 glow develop the woof and poof, only the eraptor was fying without problem. If you still want to buy a raptor go for the v2 not the old one and pray to have no problem.

Hi!

In the meantime I bought a Hirobo GPH and I'm very happy with this little thing. Only the sound is a bit strange, because I'm accustomed to the sound of my OS91.
