Signatures

And to follow up on a thread another pilot started, signatures full of helicopter names, engine types, etc. make searching for meaningful information a difficult task. I've just eliminated those parts of my signature.

The member rating under the member name is a tad misleading. I noticed I just became a Senior Member and to my way of thinking it kind of makes it look like I know what I'm talking about. I usually don't. I have hit the 100 mark from asking questions and replying to the few things that I could. How about changing mine to Frequent Watcher?

Signatures...and MORE

I like my signature. Simply anyone who sees it knows what I am running. I have had about 15 private mailings from people to me because of my signature. All asking for help because of what they saw that I fly. I see no problem with custom signatures, as it has NO effect on searches in this particular forum. Other forums had this difficulty. Some ones signature tells you about that person. Just ask any signature expert.

Out of respect to Mark. I have not been posting links to other businesses. However, I truly HATE that policy. It's not user friendly. When you are trying to help a newbie who does not know where to find a particular item. Well sending him to a specific spot without a specific URL to it makes things more difficult. I don't assume that if I say go to "blank" company that an individual can find it just by adding a www and a dot com to it. Nor do I like having to type some ridiculous figment URL. One of the reasons I switched to Runryders was to be able to post URL's. This is just some sponcer whining about something they know nothing about. If they all have comparable prices and service then they shouldn't sweat it. I didn't join this forum to have to censor what I type. I type respectfully and that should be enough. (sorry for beating a dead horse here)

I don’t like that every time some one posts a picture no matter what it drops into their gallery. I was helping some one buy posting a Sky crane picture. Now it’s in my gallery. This is not where I wanted it. I know Mark is working on getting the galleries customizable so I haven’t said anything about it. Just saying something now cause he asked.

I still would like a Chat function. If one of my buddies is on line I might like to shoot the sh-t with them. Or add a thing at the top that tells me when a buddy is on line. I don't want to have to go to another screen to see who's out there on my list. Some small type at the tope somewhere, like in a 6pt font.

I agree that a Senior member is not appropriately named by numbers of postings. How about setting it up buy date?

Let it also be said, I'm not bitching. I am just replying to what has already been stated and asked.

Pay to play? One dollar a month from everyone. Then let's go for a free for all. No sponsors, just beat the resellers to the bone and take no prisoners.

Wait a minute. I thought we were talking about sponsorship here. Guess that Runryder is going to squeeze money out of me either way. Personaly, I like the sponsorship angle.

I've got to say that I am 100% in agreement with Volkul when he says:

"I truly HATE that policy. It's not user friendly. When you are trying to help a newbie who does not know where to find a particular item. Well sending him to a specific spot without a specific URL to it makes things more difficult."

and

"This is just some sponcer whining about something they know nothing about. If they all have comparable prices and service then they shouldn't sweat it".

In fact, I am a potential sponsor/reseller of Runryder. You will see my advertising here as soon as spots become available. Besides, what better advice could you possibly give another heli pilot then where to save money and find better products.

As an advertiser I have no problem with you shopping my competition. In fact, I encourage it. Click on links to my competitors, look there products over, compare prices. It keeps the industry competative and honest. And that is exactally what this hobby needs.

ColeopTer,

There are several reasons I have not been here latly. To many to count. Mostly cause of the holidays and family. Also nothing important to say. Thanks for asking!

Moore,
Great attitude!!! Where's your web store? I got to check out your site!

Mark,
Pay as you Play? Um.... no offence but things are begining to sound like what happend to RCO. I know it ain't cheap to run this service. Hell, I don't know! Can you host web pages yet? How about a nominal fee for that? Start charging and loose members FAST.

I think you too have a little bit of clout in the RC community now. Use it and don't let the advratiseres push you around. Tell them how things where started and that you don't want to break the mold. You have a good thing going use it and don't change it.

Some banner adds are OK, just don't change what got you here.

Signatures?

Time to fess up, I'm the guy who has been e-mailing messages to members about slimming down the signatures.
I thought it was a good idea to save a bit of bandwidth and keep the site loading fast. Most of the stuff listed-like radios, helis and other equpiment can be listed in the profile area where there is a lot of space for that.
The most common info duplicated is the location, it's already in the left pane and I see no reason to have it in the signature, although I feel everyone should have a location listed.

Everyone who is interested can check a members profile to view all that stuff if they choose.
One member has listed a bunch of sponsors, I wasn't sure about how that works so I asked him to check with Mark to see how he feels about it.

I have tried to be polite in my request and most of the 60 or so members I have contacted have agreed and made the changes.

I'm not trying to step on anyones toes, just trying to do a bit to keep the site the great place that it has become.
My sincere apology to anyone who is offended by my idea, it was not my intention to do so.

MArk has done an awesome job. This is better than Rotory, and way better than RCO. I think with the pics and formats on this site are top notch. He does this for the love of it not money. It is costing him money though, so I have no problems with adds or contributing to the Club 20. Information and entertainment (this is both) are worth something. Quit bitchin' (yes you are) and give the guy a break. If you want other things do it you self. Sometimes you guys really suck!!!!!! Thanks again to Mark.

I normally don't get involved in these type of debates, but I truly enjoy RunRyder. I think Mark does a great job. From the number of post each day I believe most of us enjoy it also. So unless we are all going to send Mark the money or offer to help him physically run this site, might we better leave it to the man that stood up and started something that we all enjoy.

I love RunRyder, the info I have gathered here has saved me money and a lot of time. I would be happy if people would just learn to @#!@ing spell. My two cents.

Hi,

This is something that I saw on another forum. I would appreciate this in the rulebooks.

(1.6) Stay on topic when initiating a thread or posting a reply- When replying to a thread, try and stay true to the topic. This guideline is needed to prevent CodingForums.com from becoming a chat room, and to maintain the quality of information flowing through and stored. When future members stumble across your post looking for answers, they will not appreciate chit chat.

A lot of threads here get hijacked.

different kind of posting etiquette belongs in the CLASSIFIEDS section

It is rude for a person (other than the seller)
to discuss prices and negotions on the classified sale ads.

Prices and all negotiations should be done by PM (private message system)

If you feel that a guy is asking too much $$$for his used equipment,

send him a PM. Don't flame the guy on the ad he has created. It may be something as simple as a Typo or "fat finger"

EXAMPLES OF IMPROPER CLASSIFIED AD ETIQUETTE:

"For sale, $100 shipped"
Reply: "I'll give you $25 for it."

"For sale, USED SERVO'S, $100 shipped."
Reply: "These only cost $105 at HeliProz"

These are 2 classic examples of what NOT to do on the Classified ads.

DJB78, I'll second that motion. It is kinda rude and has no class.

Where's that EASY button?
