Prepare yourself folks...

I have been doing a lot of work with many people on getting away from the Zenoahs and such over the years; they are such heavy pigs.

I have put 2 gallons through this motor in a .60 sized heli, performance is pretty strong, as strong as a .70.

I have not had any heat issues to date; summer will tell.

These current motors have custom hardened crank pins with roller bearings and run a 50:1 oil mix.

Also in progress is a .51 sized motor and the 2.3 Supertigre which will also be a lot of fun.

These are many times better than the MVVS motors I worked with!

The .90 is 26 ounces! Yes, 26 ounces!

So, hang loose! And stay tuned!

Very cool...
Richard Felkin was working with these a few years ago in a Freya...
Always hoped he would find a great motor for them, but I never heard anything...
He wasn't using the BME's though.

I believe Richard was trying to use Roto series (the 25) from ZDZ.

Really heavy, and rear rotor input which makes things tough...

This is a huge breakthrough I've been pushing for two years plus now as even the purpose built MVVS motors are 36 ounces and up for the 1.6, and not real smooth runners...

The G2300 conversion is going to come in at under 35 ounces!

Those were the ones if I recall...

Really cool I hope they work out well.
It would be nice to have a gas engine in that size.

When do you think the testing will be done? I have a X-cell 60 that looks like it will need a 90 glow in to pull around a large scale fuse this summer. A gas engine over a 90 glow would be a sweet deal.

You can buy one now from BME... There was a Co in Fla years ago done this with these engines, but they only put the needle bearing in the bottom of the rod... I'm sure BME done both ends so it should do good...I'm surprize at what you said about performance...I would have thought more than a 70 in performance. Doesn't matter, the weight savings makes up for it

Will 90 size engine fit on Freya?

Does that 26 oz include the ignition system and battery?
If not what is the weight of the complete engine?

Question #2,

Could I put it into a X-cell glow heli w/o much work or is it for a gasser heli? If it will go into a glow unit, what do I need to change.

If you follow the link it says they are built from Super tiger glow engines so they should be pretty much a drop in to any glow helicopter.
Might have to do some mods to the engine mount to fit the bolt pattern on the Super tiger block though.

Never thought about the fuse application. This would be great for that so long as you can get the air flowing around that head.
I am willing to bet they run pretty hot.

The ST 2300 conversion sounds very interesting for a gasser.

Hey Bill, I'm trying to be conservative as not to overhype, but it puts out like a 90. The tests showed more power after the conversion than the glow counterpart.

Size wise it is a .60 case so it's a drop in. I am not exactly sure of the hole alignment as I had a blank mount I used in the frames. Should be a match as well.

It comes with a pretty large muffler than rotates through 360 degrees, I used it with great success.

The weight is bare, I didn't do all up weight but I am sure it is about low-mid 30's.

Jason, they are running pretty cool at 50:1. No heating issues yet but I've been in the 60's so we'll see. The stock heads are pretty large.

Charles, it would be a pretty easy install on your glow XL. It will not work in existing gassers.

Stock glow gearing seems pretty well suited, the motor runs well anywhere 10-14K so you do the math and see what makes you happy.

And yes you can buy one today and off you go!

You'll need to fiddle with minor clutch/fan fit, length and mounting holes at the most, but it should be minor as the dimensions are close:

G90:

Width between centers of mounting holes: 50mm
Width of crankcase excluding mounting flanges: 42mm
Length from backplate to front of drive washer: 97mm
Height from bottom of crankcase to top of head: 108mm
Crankshaft size: 5/16-24

OS .61 SX-H

Width (between centers of engine mount holes): 52mm
Width (neglecting the engine mount flanges): 42.6mm
Length (from backplate to front of drive washer): 93mm
Height from bottom of crankcase to top of head: 100.5mm
Crankshaft thread size: 5/16-24

I think I answered everyone's questions, so have at it and enjoy!

Warren,

I have one question that I didn't see addressed...what does the ignition system look like. I see the pick-up at the front, but there must be an amplifier and a coil?

Hey Steve, hope all is well!

It is a CH unit with a smaller McDaniel plug cap.

Fixed timing (absolutely no issues with starting or transition).

Falkon is in the future as soon as they get get a new plug cap finished in development.

Either ignition works well, BME has always leaned towards Falkon so as soon as they plug cap issue is resolved that's what it will come with.

And as a reminder to all. If you do the conversion, don't forget you'll have to change out your fuel lines and such or you'll have a mess on your hands!

And alas, you'll have to get creative with the throttle linkage; I used a mini digital servo on the opposite side... No biggie.

Hold on to your hat:

Likely under 35 ounces without muffler and just under 4 horsepower.

Width between centers of mounting holes: 60mm
Width of crankcase excluding mounting flanges: 49mm
Length from backplate to front of drive washer: 117.5mm
Height from bottom of crankcase to top of head: 117.5mm
Crankshaft size: 5/16-24
