This afternoon was the greatest!

After waiting one month for some fuel, and changing a piston on a new OS 50 Hyper, I finally got to start the engine.

I got the fuel with about an hour left of daylight, went out to the back yard, filled up the tank, hooked up the glow driver cranked it over and brrraaap, brrraaap the engine came to life after the second crank of the starter. Sweet!

Had it running nice and rich and just ran the motor through a quarter of a tank sitting on the ground. It ran so smooth. The only thing I noticed was a little tinging from a loose tail drive belt which I'll get to tomorrow. I just can't believe how smooth it ran on the ground at a little under half stick.

Now I have to endure the following week of work before I can get out next weekend and actually test hover and tweak. Oh yeah, and wait for some new Rx batteries. Man, the 1100 Sanyo battery I have just sucks with digitals all round. Looks like I'll only get about 1 flight before the Gem 2000 starts showing constant red.

Just wanted to say how happy I was with everything so far and thanks to everyone that's helped so far, and bound to help in the future.

Cheers, Shayne

Yeah, the Hyper is so sweet, just barely touch the starter to it and it just purrs. I had the same belt ting like you said just tighten it up a bit and it will be fine.

I'm running NMP Li-Poly 7.4 2400 batteries from Central Hobbies with a 5.1 batteries of America regulator and have gotten 4 flights with a 2oz header tank and I'm sure if I tested the battery I could have gotten more flights. The battery is $34.97 and regulator is $19.99 and I charge them on my Duralite with no problems.

Good Luck with your Tiger and welcome to the club

Battery...

I run an SR 2200 sub c pack in the nose of mine... no worries about loosing power with that one, and you can even jump start your car at the end of the day!!!! (kidding) The extra weight helps with the c/g and I don't mind knowing that they will last all weekend... (but I still keep them in check)

Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

Thanks guys.

I've just ordered some more receiver batteries. I hear you on the C of G. I was considering LiPo but that's pretty light. I'm going to try out dual 2500 packs and see how that works. I'll have a few different packs to try.

I have a Sanyo 2700, I get a few(3-4) flights out of it too which is nice. I have all digitals too.

I had the same 1100 pack in mine, not knowing anything at first, total newb, we set up the Tiger and the first flight it tipped over due to a battery not being charged from trimming and setting it up. My first lesson in batteries.

Live and learn I guess.

Have a good one, Jeff

Wanna go crazy. How about a 4100Mah 3c LiPo and a 6v regulator. It goes a number of flights. Probably enough power for an on board starter.......... someday...........hmmmmm.

I'll admit I'm not a great pilot, but I can hover with the best of them.

Now who would go and put a lipo set up like that in a Evo 90?

Just remember -- if the world didn't suck, we would fall off.

Nah,

Got you beat.
4800 Fromeco LIon battery with a 5.1v regulator.

Best part is I can charge it up and not fly for weeks and still have a full charge.

How about we just run an alternator off the motor, use a smaller battery, put it all in a gasser with gps, critical data link, video, and a big tank. That should get some flying time.

I'll admit I'm not a great pilot, but I can hover with the best of them.

Got the new battery packs earlier in the week. Cycled them all through at a slow charge 3X each and was ready to go yesterday. Left work an hour early and went to the field. Got there and set up ready to do some hovering, wind blowing pretty good but not worrisome. Turned the starter over and something didn't feel right. Tried again and felt and heard grinding.

Packed up and went home. Took the engine out expecting some engine problem and saw that the clutch hub bolts had worked loose and were rubbing on the clutch bell. I guess when I put in the new hub I didn't loc-tite the bolts. Anyway, I was quite releived but also suspiscious of the rest of the bolts. Double checked everything for loc-tite and am ready to go now. Now we're expecting snow now for the whole weekend!

Still, one step closer.

Got the carbon rod and ends to do the tail push rod mod so at least I have something to work on while waiting for the clouds to break. Hope the rest of you guys can get out flying.

It Flies!!

Well, after work tonight I ventured out into the wind and cold and flew my Tiger. What a great feeling after two months of waiting and waiting. Wind was gusting up to 25 km/hr but I managed to hover around for a full tank before my fingers got too numb in the -8 cold.

What a great feeling. Can't believe how stable it is. Even my brother said it was so stable he could fly it. lol He can't even fly a plank.

Thanks again to all those that have assisted. Hope I can get more flights in this weekend and get this Hyper broken in.

You gotta be dedicated to fly at -8.

Congrats on your new Tiger!

I'll admit I'm not a great pilot, but I can hover with the best of them.
