I have a Concept EP that I've decided to sink a little money into. If I give this thing a good motor, do some lightening, and find some good blades for it, will it fly, or am I just wasting my time? By 'fly' I mean do full aerobatics, not just hovering around. I've done that with it already. I'm looking to improve it to a reasonable electric machine.

I had one. It would barely hover, and couldn't get out of it's own way. This was back before Tim Lampe pissed off the high princess of The Empire and was still running the heli program, so the Concept Hotline was still in place, manned by guys who knew something about r/c besides cars.

I called, they said send it back, we'll fix you right up. I did. It came back with a new, obviously different motor. Now, instead, of wallowing around for five minutes before exhausting the battery, it hovered fine for two minutes. Still wouldn't fly around for squat.

Some folks have good luck with electrics, because I've seen the evidence. But I also know that these people have major bucks invested in batteries; I mean serious dollars.

I've tried e-power three times; a monster truck, a helicopter, and a small plank. All three endeavors were disappointing. Perhaps when battery technology makes a quantum leap in capacity, and is affordable, I might try it again. In the meantime, I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. You can indeed make it fly pretty good; but it will take some dust, as you have realized.

Yup, mine actually flies around ok on the stock motor. It only has enough power to spin the blades up to flying speed though. If I add collective the head speed drops right out and I get no climb. I just thought with winter just around the corner and some clubs doing the indoor thing, I'd try to work up an indoor aerobat. Money is only a minor hurdle at this point. If I could be sure it would fly good, I'd probably do it.

HMMM, I wonder what an Aveox motor costs these days?
