Can anyone recommend what motor, and esc to use on an Eco 8? Will it fly with 2 Trex batteries? (3 cell 2100mah TP) What is needed to make the stock kit fly right? I can fly my Trex pretty well and just want something different. I also have 8 cell 3300 mah nimh packs. What flight time would these give?

Li-pos are by far the best batteries for the Eco 8. I am presently running a TP 3s 6000 on a Hacker B-50 14L w/ 19 tooth pinion, Castle Phoenix ESC, MS 480 blades, and homemade paddles. It is setup for 3D flight with the bell-hiller mod on it. It flips as fast as my R50 and has plently of power. If it is 3D that you are looking for a setup like this will serve you well.

8 cell 3300s give about 12 to 13 minutes of hover and FF with a "tame" brushless motor setup (like my mega 22/20/3H).

Lipos are the best bet. 2 Trex batteries in parallel should work easily.

2 t-rex batts are fine in parralell setup. I use an Axi 2814/12 with 21T pinion it has awsome torque and outclimbs nearly all raptor 50's ive seen.

I use 10 * GP Ni-Mh 3300 cells giving a flight time of about 12-14 mins but from what i have read and heard it will fly on 8 cells fine with the motor.

I also run a separate rx battery as i got a wag on the tail caused by insufficient current getting to the gyro.

if you are looking at having a 3d setup then you will have to make a few mods such as the bell hiller mod above and frame brace, boom brace etc but its well worth the work

hope this helps

atb, Does the AXI 2814-12 have a 4mm or 5mm shaft? If 4mm where do you get the pinions?

its the 4mm shaft. i use a 5mm pinion with a shim drilled to allow for the set screw to actually contact the shaft itself.

when i originally shimmed it i didnt have any tube to do it so i just used a deans female connector as it fitted like a glove.

the only other thing wrong with the motor is that it doesnt have a flat spot on the shaft for the set screw to sit on i remedied this by just putting one on it with a dremel.

it seems like a lot of work but it isnt really and its well worth it as i cant get over the amount of power this motor seems to have.

hope this helps

hi its just 5mm thin wall brass tube with a 4mm inner diameter. i drilled a 2mm hole in the side of the tube to accomode the setscrew.

you can get the brass tube from hobby stores or hardware stores or shops such as http://www.greenweld.co.uk/acatalog/Shop_Tube_187.html id dont cost the earth and comes in usefull so much so that i had to post to find the store i used before reccomended by a fellow runryder.

anyway i hope this helps

Hi you will find lots of information on motors and suitable batteries on the EHBG -

http://www.swashplate.co.uk/ehbg-v16/ch05s06.html

A lot of people use the Axi 2814/12 like ATB I would recommend it.

I have an insane setup with an 8000 MAH LiPo and B50 11L motor with a 15T pinion listed as 'insanely powerful' on the EHBG. I have never known it to bog down and I still havent got enough courage to run full throttle or the energy to keep it flying until the battery dies!. Only draw back is its very expensive

The best Motor I have run in an eco 8 is the Axi 2820/8,with a 21T pinnion, but you will need a 60-70 amp controller, exact replacment motor to, Ikarus H8 Brushless.
