JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > TT 39 in Venture 30

I now have one 10min flight on my JR Venture with the TT 39. It felt pretty good. Appears to have substantially more power than the OS 32, even running rich. I ran a few tanks of fuel through the engine on the bench with an airplane prop, so I didn't have to run it EXTREMELY rich.

Don't take me wrong here, taking that OS 32 off the Venture was a very hard thing to do. You know the old phrase " if it's not broke, don't fix it ", well that's the case here. The OS ran great, I just wanted a little more power for learning inverted hover. But, I didn't want to do major conversion to the Venture because I like it pretty much the way it is.

The only reason I only have 10min of air time on the engine is because it got dark on me and I haven't had time to get back out.
My first impression is: Very, Very, Nice engine, and I'm a sceptic, I use OS engines on everything I have, planes, heli's, & one boat.

We'll see, time will tell.

How much did you fly it with the OS? I'd love to hear more opinions as I am in the same situation, I want more go juice for my venture but don't want to have to go to a 50.

I flew the CR@P out of it with the OS 32

I probably had upwards of 150 flights on it with the OS 32. And in all that time the OS only died one time during flight and that was because I ran it out of fuel, that's how well the OS ran. I broke the OS in on a bench so I would get the most possible power out of it. I ran WildCat 15% in the os and that's what I'm running in the TT.39 also. The TT seems to like this fuel just fine and it idels incredibley well.
As I stated before even running the engine Rich the power increase is VERY noticable and fuel consumption don't seem to bad and not even close to my Voyager 50 w/OS 50's rate of consumption.

I hope to get it back in the air tomorrow, I also hope to start leaning it out a little more this weekend.

TT 39 In Venture

Terkan

I'll keep you posted.
As a side note I ran about 1/3 of a gallon of fuel in this engine on a test stand with an airplane prop. After doing this but before putting it in the heli I dissassembled the engine to check for unusual wear, funny marks, or what ever. The inner workings of the TT appeard just as clean as they did when I disassembled it before any fuel had been through it.

Yea, I ordered one too... have to go pick it up from the post office today as a matter of fact. If the flight times are too short then I'll order the KSJ upgrade tank for Ergo.

TT 39 In Venture

I put another two tanks of fuel through the TT39 last night. Still runing extremely well. This has to be one of the best ideling / starting engines I've ever owned. I'm still running it very rich. The temp guage is showing between 160 - 175 '.

I'll also give a heads up on how I mounted the engine.
First off the engine does not come with a prop driver or washer only the nut. So, I took the prop driver ( the sloted one that goes over the shaft that the fan hub tightens against).
I did not add another washer behind the prop driver to get it far enough away from the engine housing that it wouldn't rub. Instead I just used my disk sander and knocked about .75mm off the back of it, problem solved and I didn't have to add a thicker or seconed (ther is already one) washer behind it. As for a washer before the nut, I didn't use one. This seems to be a topic of debate with some people but I've never used one on any of the helis I own or have owned and I've never had one come loose. I just put a drop of the blue locktite on the threds, hold the fan or hub in my hand with a wrag wrapped around it (so I don't hurt my hand or the fan) and tighten it with a small wrachet.

The only other thing I did was trim the fan shroud back a little at the bottom. If you don't the shroud actually touches against the engine heat sink. This is probably not necessary but, I figured it would help with cooling a little.

I also checked the runout, it was dead on.

My TT39 is running great on my Venture, I'm running my pitch curve at +10,0,-10. What pitch curves are the rest of you guys running with the Venture. I was thinking of trying +9,0,-9. Daz...

Dazzler......Your telling me you can actually put a pitch gauge on your blades and you read 10 too -10? When I first bought my Venture I went through and set up the same pitch range, the thing would not lift off the ground even at full stick. I posted a question about this to see if anyone else had this same exper. Here is what I typed before.........

Something does not make sence with the Venture and my pitch gauge. I've taken my R30 and R60 directly from the table to a solid hover with minor pattern flying for triming. For example a pitch curve that I like for normal mode is -5 too 9 with mid stick at 5-6. The Raptors were happy with this setting but the Venture is not. I used this curve with the Venture, but it will not lift into a hover. Next I entered my setup screen and increased all 5 points by 10, this allowed the bird to lift off and with a couple test climbs and slight trim adj's I was flying some 8's. When done and back on the bench I checked the pitch readings, I was blown away. At mid stick for just a hover, I had 10degs for a reading and at full coll. 15degs. How can this be? The heli flew good with these readings, I've never seen a R30 ship fly with these pitch settings. The head speed is fine, not to slow and def. not overspeeding, in fact this was the first flight on this new bird and I was totaly happy with how it handled some flips and rolls. Are these normal readings for the Venture? Some info would be great...

So to hear 10 too -10 make me wounder what diff. is there from my Venture compared to yours...

Toytech, I have no problem lifting, flying, looping, rolling with -10,0,+10, you must be doing something wrong in setting your pitch curves. At this setting my heli lifts off at approx 3/4 throttle, and flies great. Maybe you are getting that rubbing that is slowing down your headspeed, I dont know. Daz...

One other question.......I run a OS32 in my venture and was thinking of changeing it out for the TT39, I run a header and CVEC pipe on the OS, will that work on the TT motor?

I wounder if the parts that Horizon is sending me to fix all the up/down/wobble play in the drivetrain will fix my pitch concern?
Hopefully...

What servos are you useing on your Venture???????????

I'm using std JR 537 servos on swash, and throttle, Futaba 9253 on tail. I think you need to get rid of that CVEC pipe too. Daz...

CVEC from my understanding does make pipes for the cars. This one is for the Heli's. Three other guys that I fly with use the CVEC's on their Raptors. I will admit, on the 32 the power increase is dramatically...

If the pipe works on the TT39, I would like to try it, but if it will not work, which exh sys do you suggest.....

I'm using the Maverick muffler from Heliproz, but if you say there are guys at your field using them with success, then it must be ok. Its just that I've never heard of CVEC heli mufflers, but that doesnt mean they dont make them. The CVEC I use on my car is awesome, so if it is a heli muffler by CVEC it may be good too. Where did you buy it at? Daz...

A the LHS (Ultimate Hobbies). I allready had the header from the previous pipe so all I had to get was the pipe. But even with the pipe, the Venture still feels under powered. I see HeliHut has the TT39 for
85$, is that a good price?
