Yeah, a few differences but more or less, they are the same.

Well, yes and mostly no.

They are made by the same manufacturer, Hyundai in Korea. While they have some similar visual cues, the Tiger 50 was designed from the ground up as a 50-size right from the start and not a evolution of a 30-size machine.

How do you figure? Their mechanics are nearly identical. Yeah, there are quite a few different odds and ends but I would hardly say the Tiger was designed from he ground up. Yes, I've seen both in person.

Not to mention flown both as well.

A search unveils the differences being limited to:

Hi,
Essentially,

1. upgraded clutch.
2. engine mount
3. tail boom
4. tail belt
5. 600mm blades
6. Tail gear.

Apart from this:
the tiger has thrust bearings in the main rotor grips and seesaw has 2 positions for bell hiller ratio to make it adaptable for 3d flying. Also, it is said that the blade grips and seesaw has more fiber in it to make it crash resistant.

A quote from rameshpat.

Sounds more like an update than a "ground up" design.

Al

Tiger has thrust bearings in the head. Ornith does not.
Tiger has gear ratio designed for a .50 size engine. Ornith is geared for a .30 engine.
Tiger has an adjustable Bell-Hiller mixing ratio. The Ornith does not.
Tiger has swashplate stay. Ornith does not.
Tiger's side frames are different than the Ornith.
The Tigers radio tray is longer.

The Tiger and the Ornith share a lot of similarities but they are NOT the same.

Please don't comment on something that you have "Seen".
You chime in on a forum for a product you don't even own or probably haven't even flown.

Why?

I expressed my opinion on what darkfa8 had to say about the Tiger 50 being a machine designed from the ground up, which I find a bit exaggerated. Gotta problem with that?

Maybe a wrong choice of words on his part.

The original question was what the differences where.

It would have been easier just to point them out instead of picking apart someone else's point of view.

If I'm not mistaken you started in the discussion questioning me about my point of view. I also pointed out some of the differences I found through searching before anyone else(granted that my info wasn't nearly as accurate as yours). That said, no more flack please.

little things

Yes the ornith in its original form was a 46 size. The swashplate does have a stay. My tiger came with the same radio tray as my ornith. The side frames are the exact same part .And the mixers with the extra hole were not in my tiger kit either. The ornith offers a kit to bring it up to 50 size. The most obvious difference is , besides the decal, John Beech. John makes ALL the difference. He has seen to every little change and has been so hands on , you might think he is one of us. The ornith was only on sale here for a couple of months. It was no longer allowed to be sold here because JB had formed a company to distribute the same basic machine here in the US. This machine is a favorite at our field. Al Austria knows the machine pretty well. He's a regular and one of the best flyers we have. He has flown all my machine. They include a fleet of Robbe 90 size and now my Tiger. He had flown the orniths at our field before they were all changed to tigers. The changes included main grips, with brgs. the clutch sets and of course the boom and related belts and gears. The supports for the boom work but are a little short for the tiger. I took the 30 style landing gear off and replaced it with a set of Raven 50's. Now it even looks more like a 50. Enjoy your machine and be careful about starting a fuss. TimT

IN THIS CORNER WEARING THE TIGER 50 LOGO

Just kidding,

As Tim said Al is a regular at our field and has flown our Orniths and Tigers so just because he doesn't own one he has flown them both and has been exposed to them for over a year. Tim and I had the first Robbe Orniths that made it into the US and probably one of the first Tigers that John sold in the US so Al has been involved with us from the beginning.

Hey Al, don't let the lemmings get you down, you can fly my Tiger's anytime, I hope you got the raven back together by now. College caan hold you back from your flying, but keep getting those straight A's and come fly with us when you are home. I really liked the show you put on with Dick's Nova (mine now)at the Kings Highway Field. Anyway when i changed my Ornith to a Tiger you flew it, you flew Dick's and Tim's and Clyde's as ornith's and Tigers. C-ya later. Ron

There seems to be a lot of Tigers

We have a slew of them here. We have mashed them , fried them, turned them inside out. We have tried a lot of different mods, blades, tail blades, motors, servos and some bling. I unplugged the battery once, in flight. I somehow had the switch shut off, and had a tail servo go full left. I have used v-blades, and TT blades mostly. I just got a set of 620 NHP's to try. We all have gone to the hyper power now. Steven was twisting his Tiger's ear hard this past Monday. When he finished his last flight of the day even he was tired. We have Predators, gas and glow, numerous Robbes, Novas milli's and se's. We seem to end up back at the Tigers before the end of the day. Lots of fun and very little fear. The parts are plenty and cheap. The worst thing to break is the gyro ,I just did one of those, and the blades. The tiger parts are pretty tuff. I have yet to replace the frames. I have a set in my stash but still in the bag. I did replace the ear for the canopy mount. I used a bolt through the frame into the alum. standoff. We also have used different flybars and v-paddels as well as MA white 3d's. TimT

My comments were just backing up what I believe to be a machine that evolved directly from the Ornith, I wasn't trying to start a pissing match. Anyways, Iykist if you have any more questions, my buddies here are Tiger experts and can help you with anything. Ron, I got the machine flying and it's great!! I'll let you fly it next time I see ya. As for Tiger 50, YES!! It is a fine machine.

I apologize for my tact, or lack of tact today.
There are a few loyal Tiger people here, myself included.
I was not out to start a pissing match either.

It just seems that there are so many people who stop by, drop their bomb and disappear. I thought Al was one of those and low and behold I was wrong.

Sorry about the mess.

The Tiger has improvements and it's available here in the States.

Audacity is a first class company when it comes to customer support and parts availability.

So what about the Ornith if it has none of the above.
