Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Audacity models parts

I was just shopping for parts on www.audacitymodels.com and I noticed that if you go in and select every part on the 3 page list. The ARF that is almost complete costs 299 so we have a 300 dollar machine assembled, WHY DO WE HAVE TO SPEND SO MUCH MONEY ON PARTS? The shopping cart at audacity models is 1231.26 I know there are a few option parts on that list but what of the parts on there that need multiple counts in order to complete a heli I am getting so irritated at the inflated price for parts, Is there anyone out there who may second this opinion I have or am i just crazy....

Their profits come from selling parts, not kits/ARFs(or do they?). It's typical marketing.

Crazy. Your findings will be the same with any other company.

It is your option to purchase or not so why complain?

I believe, it is the way most 30/50 size helis are sold. The vendors probably cut their margin in kit price and probably slightly increase the margin on spares.

Serves them 2 purposes:
1 Low kit cost = increased sales.
2 More owners = increased spare part sales ~ recover the initial profit sacrifice.

Correct me if i am wrong: it is the case with every heli in the market. For that matter, every commercially available product.

And ofcourse, costs involved in inventory for spare parts also matters.

Forgive me, but I can't believe you think the replacement parts pricing is considered to be out of line based on the cost of an entire net new unit. I'm all for saving a buck but you have to be realistic.

This is nothing new. The same goes for televisions, cars, boats, ipods, ANYTHING!!!

The total cost of all the individual replacement parts to build something will always FAR exceed the bundled cost if purchased whole.

Do some research on building a Ford Taurus from replacement parts and let me know what you would spend.

Just like if you were to put together a car, a boat, an airplane, from parts. The cost would be much greater in every case.

Just the way it is.

I think some of the parts for the Tiger are overpriced like the radio tray and the boom supports.

I broke my long radio tray and decided to save $16 and reinstall the short one. I will also use aftermarket boom supports and save $5 or so each time there. I picked up carbon boom supports from quick world wide for $13.99. Replacement carbon rods are $10 a pair instead of $16.99 from audacity.

Lots of ways to beat the costs associated with factory replacement costs.

Some metal helps too. Mixing arms are $15 a set from Audacity. Spend $40 and get metal forever. The plastic ones break every crash. It adds up. My last light crash just cost me $150

It's not as cheap as I expected to crash one of these. You'll notice nothing major broke. It just adds up.

On the other hand my X-Cell gasser cost about $300 a crash.

These are what replacement parts cost from audacity...

Radio tray $15
Mixing arms $15
Boom supports $16.95
Blades $29
Flybar $8.99
Paddles $14.99
Tail pitch lever $3.99
Main rotor hub $8.99
Main rotor grips new style $11.99
Tail boom $9.99
Blade spindle $9.99

Mike,

on the metal mixing arms, i know they break in pretty much every crash, but if they're metal... what does break if they don't?

btw, the best way to beat costs is to buy used parts lots, or helis. The stuff is cheaper then retail, you usually get most of what you need and you can sell off what you don't want to everyone else for substancially less then retail and make everyone happy.

When I owned a Hawk Sport I actually have 3 other spare helis worth in parts bought second hand.

I've decided that with the substancial amount of parts that I have here, I'm gonna put together another Tiger 50 and sell that off complete.

Maybe it's not the parts that are priced high. Maybe the kits are low?
Same pricing strategy holds true with any industry.
It's competitive marketing, grocery stores even do it. They advertise "loss leaders" to get people in, then put higher margin products in places where impulse buyers will scoff them up.

I'll admit I'm not a great pilot, but I can hover with the best of them.

Dan,

With metal mixers I think the grips would tend to break at the link arm like mine did.

Grips for a pair are $11.99. Arms are $14.99. Seems strange. I would have expected the prices to be opposite.

I don't think Audacity is any different than any other heli line. If you be a little extra careful and don't crash as often, flying is almost free

Buy yourself a printer

Then buy the replacement ink cartriges. You'll find its cheaper to buy a new printer almost every time. Same thing. Or refill(used),it all the same.

In this hobby anything goes. You can build a heli with the best or cheapest from any brand. It's all good.

Boom supports? Who cares what heli they come from. Actually they are better quality than the Audacity ones and cheaper (an exception)

I have a Tiger and a Raptor50. Overall the Tiger50 is much better built. The raptor is just soo cheaply constructed. I only say this because I started with the Tiger, never owning a Raptor. Now that I have both and have been fiddling with them side by side, I definately like the Tiger50 build much better than the Raptor. Matter of fact I'm going to fix this Rappy up a little and sell it. Just picked up a couple Trex electrics to play with.
