Hello,

I can't seem to get the tail to stop shaking - my gyro sensitivity is pretty low around 40%, but is keeps shaking. Also, my main blades just wont track right - I thought I had it all set up great - I spent a few hours on it this weekend, but it shakes worse now than it did last week. Could the belt tension be too tight? Why won't my blades track? Help!

Shake

Hey is the whole helicopter shaking or is it just the tail?

If the whole heli is shaking it could be out of track blades causing the shake.

How tight are the main blades in their grips? They should be snug enough to take a little force to fold them back.

If tracking is a problem you might want to pick blade as a "master" blade and put tracking tape on the tip. Next measure the linkages on that master side and duplicate the lengths on the other side.
It sounds like the head needs a good going over.

Have you had any blade strikes at all? Even the light smack can tweak the feathering spindle. Even if the there has been no blade strikes you might want to pull the spindle and make sure it is straight. A bent spindle can make tracking a pain in the arse.

Something else that causes a shake is low head speed. It's difficult to describe how to tell how fast the head is spinning. Most experienced fliers develope a sense of how fast it's spinning by the sound of the engine. If a fellow flier has a tach you can check it with that. You should be running about 1650 rpms in the normal throttle curve.

What gyro/servo are you using.
If it is a GY401/9254 combo make sure the gyro is set to digital servo mode. If using a non-digital servo turn that feature off.

If it is some other type of vibration let me know and I'll do the best I can to help.

Why not take a trip to the shop and have John take a quick look at it. Its not that far from you.

Mine was set up pretty good, but he found a few things that needed changing. Going to fire it up again this weekend and fully break in the motor. Fun.

The problem was due to three different things I think:

1. Main blade tracking was really off
2. Motor was WAY too rich
3. Tail boom had become loose and the belt tension was too loose and was causing slippage.

So, all just my mistakes....

Have customers take a skills test before they are permitted to buy one of your helis.....

Gilliraldi as learn to fly said it really pays to have someone look over the heli, no matter how good you believe you have it set up. It's really worth the trip to the shop, but if you can't make it here we have contacts up your way we could set you up with to check things over.

I tell customers all the time "don't get frustrated with "it", that's our job. That's why we are here, to provide the help our customers sometimes need. Sometimes that takes hands on, that's what makes us unique.

I'll admit I'm not a great pilot, but I can hover with the best of them.
