Took the Tiger out to the field today for its maiden flight by me (purchased used). No luck, spun the collet on the start shaft. The set screw was stripped. Gotta get a new one. I still can't believe that heli manufacturers are still using this design, it just seems like such a weak point. Is there any way to beef this up and be sure it's not gonna spin off. By the way, same thing has happened to my brothers raptors the last two times we went out.

Fix!!!

It seems that most people will reuse the set screw after removing the starter cup..(this is what you are calling a collet??) and this becomes a pretty standard issue...
If I have to remove mine, I pull the set screw and replace it with a new one each time... also, make certain that you are hitting the flat on the shaft, and if there isn't one, make one.... and one more little trick that I use is to use blue loctite and not only on the set screw, but also on the starter cup as well... then let it set up overnight....I have not spun a starter cup in, hell, I don't remember the last one!!!
Hope this will help you out.... good luck... Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

yes exactly what doorman said, the only thing that im going to add is that when i replace the set screw, i use a longer one so there is more allen wrench area for remoaval or an area for some pliers to grip if needed.brian..

the thunder tiger 6mm hex adapter for the raptor fits nicely diameter wise, but you'll need your dremel and a cutoff wheel and about 5 mintues and you can have 2 flat spots for a much firmer grip on the starter shaft. this is an option if you really don't want to screw with it any more. also the TT part is a bit beefier.
