I probly already know the answer to my Question but ill ask any way !!!
I bought the Hawk IV ARF because no kits were available and i didnt want to wait !!!! Now my Question do i need to completely dismantle and rebuild it from step 1 or can I trust that it has been properly assembled and locktited where it should be?

Im not affraid to do this at all but this is my first heli and I know squat about helicopters!!!! I prefer to just assemble and fly with out completely tearing it down !! My thinking was ill wait till my first crash then do the bearing upgrade and complete reassembly while i wait for parts !

Now ive been into R/C a long time and I know everyone always says ARFs should be totally dismanteled and reasembled and ive done so with every ARF plane boat car and truck ive ever owned so like I said I probly already know the answer "reasemble"

Dosent hurt to ask though does it?

I have not bought a Century ARF, so I can not give you the final word on the subject. But I can tell you what I would do if it were mine. I would check the main components (head, tail rotor, front transmission) and see if they were loctited and assembled correctly. If they were, I would fly it without any further dissasembly, and I would keep a close eye on things. If I found the main components were not assembled correctly (without loctite, and not on tight) I would tear it down, just for peace of mind.

My first hawk IV was an ARF and they did a good job putting it together (i know because I crashed it and had to rebuild it

If you're like me your first crash won't be too far off Then you can rebuild it

M-Maxx,

Buying a "used" heli is somewhat of a gamble. Depending on who you bought it from, you'll have to make that decision on whether to break it down completely or "trust" that the heli was built correctly.

Many of us on this BB have bought helis from others after the assurance that the heli was not crashed, that we know who we are getting the heli from....etc.....

I think it very important to know who your are dealing with before making the purchase.

In my experience, I have bought many helis from people here on RR, RCU and long ago, RCO and I found the helis to have been built right.

BTW, I tried getting ahold of you reference to a Raptor deal you had inquired about. Sorry we could not have made it a "done deal".

Ray,

I think you misunderstood my post an ARF = "almost ready to fly " not the name of whom I got it from but I appreciate your input all the same !

Sorry i was not able to follow through on the raptor deal but I was in an auto accident and spent the last few days in the hospital recovering unfortunately but im fine now except for my knee has torn MCL & ACL ligaments !!!

I take it has been sold ? Its just as well because my savings will be needed to buy a new vehicle because mine was a total loss !!

all good now home, safe, and on good pain killers playin with the hawk and the G2 sim i just got !!! gonna be out of work 4 to 6 months so ill have plenty of time to fix fly and fool around with all my new toys

Opps.......sorry about that Maxx. Didn't see the ARF part.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope everything is okay. The Raptor is still up for sale and the asking price is lowered as per the owner's request.

Take care.

I bought a Hawk IV ARF a couple of months ago and just had the pleasure of completely tearing it down after a boom strike. On top of knowing that it was well put together I learned a lot about my helo. The crash was a two pronged education--one, they will happen when you least suspect it, and two you will have to learn to disassemble and rebuild your helo and that is an education in itself. As for the Hawk being well built I did not locate anything "poorly" built, so that end seemed pretty good. After rebuilding I know what areas on the helo to check and how to check them, which I was not very good at before.
