Buy a tool known as "The Greaser". (www.petesrc.com) Use an automotive synthetic wheelbearing grease with an "EP" rating. You will never ask this question again if you grease ALL your bearings. I even do the swashplate. The nice part about using "The Greaser" is, you can do the bearings in the pulleys and swash without taking them apart.

how exactly do you do them in the pullys without making a mess?

You really have to make a mess, but the bearing gets greased.

They don't come out easy. The only time I would remove them, would be to replace them.
