Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > airstar jetcopter sx

i must say from a new turbine heli purchaser i am also looking at price.
when i first started flying i started out with a claped out kalt space barron. then worked my way up to a raptor and a fury? but the kalt taught me the basics about the flight and setup of a heli. maybe the jetcopter can teach me the basics of the combination of a turbine and a heli. then i can make a decision on what i wanna do?

Well I feel like Im going out on a limb for fear of being shot down, but, I love my Jetcopter, she is my sweetheart, second of course to my wife. It flies slow and accurate or ballistic and smooth, whatever your heart desires. So far the ONLY issue has been a broken EGT sensor which JetCat stepped up to immediately and sent a replacement. I have no experience with the free turbine, but my belt drive reduction has given me no glitches so far and that is after 20 gallons of kero. Rob.

Run, don't walk, away from the Jetcopter

I've flown one pretty regularly for the last year and I can declare with some authority, you'd be better off spending your money on the Robbe Cuatro turbine conversion that someone from the UK does. I flew one of these at the weekend and boy what a sweet heli! It's got a Wren 54 turbine with proper gear box. And it actually flies really nice! Which the Jetcopter DOES NOT DO.

Please, don't waste your time with this thing. I've got an article on it on my site at www.littlerotors.com

The Cuatro hovered great straight out of the box. T-Rexes hover much better than the Jetcopter, and when I say much better, I mean MUCH better.

Morning All and Happy New Year

I have two Jetcopters and very happy with them.
I have a Vario Turbine Airwolf with little time on it but it felt good even with the high pucker factor.
My Powercat turbine will arrive this month.

JetCopter 3D

radek,

There are several upgrades to the 3D version, but the heli is in the final stages of flight testing, so I think it will be a week or so before the info is released. I test flew another one yesterday that was built for a friend of mine. Hands of hover with no trim changes other than a few clicks on the tail.

The new 4 servo direct CCPM is extremely responsive, 810 mm V-blades and the belt driven tail combined with the new Futaba 611 gyro makes a huge difference in the way the heli flies compared to older versions.

For 2006, all the metal parts are nickel plated. It looks avesome. I'm sure Josef will post photos as soon as he is satisfied with the flight testing.

Secret Squirrel what do you mean that the Jetcopter does not fly well? I have put over 100 flights on the JC and i have to say that it flew very well even with the Vario scale 800 blades. I had it clocked at 80 MPH and where able to perform most aerobatic maneuvers. Light 3D was capable and if i had access to MAH or V-Blades I bet i could have opened up a greater flight envelope. I converted it to a 5 blade H500 and still enjoyed how the bird handled! I would put a JC up against any turbine pod and boom for general flight performance and it would be a close match.

Damn with a statement like this i would suggest you go back to a shuttle and get more stick time before you move up to a turbine heli.

The JC was one of the easiest heli's to hove both inverted and upright! The only thing the JC needed was a good 90 degree exhaust pipe.

JetCopter

Good post Alan, wait till you get a chance to fly the new JetCopter 3D, then you will be even more impressed.

I would think that Squirrel probably had something installed wrong and based his review on a heli that was not set up properly.

The 4 or 5 JetCopters I have flown so far where all super sweet flying helis. Especially with the V-blades and higher head speed, this thing really comes alive and flies rock solid.

Jetcopter

I must agree with Alan but.....
It's Fords and Chevys (or Astons and Jag-u-ars). I own 2 T-rexs with all the good stuff and yes, they hover great. But to say that they hover much, and I mean MUCH, better than a JC is coming from someone with an agenda or someone flying a JC that is not set up properly. I hover my JC in my backyard at least once a week and I don't have any problem. Mine does have 90 deg. exhaust and that is a must for a steady hover. If the wind is blowing I must say that it hovers much, and I mean MUCH MUCH, better than any T-rex. And how about a drag race for pink slips against a T-rex? And then there is that sound...
It's like a Harley, if you have to explain it they won't understand.

No agenda here guys, just calling it as i see it.

The Turbine Cuatro I flew was great, flew a lot like a 90 and was a pleasure to fly.

This particular Jetcopter (and another one in NZ that I know of), don't fly that well at all. For something so large and heavy, you'd think it would be rock solid in hover. Instead, it's quite unsettled.

It pitches quite badly in forward flight and general aerobatics and light 3D suffer from the instability of the rotorhead. Putting the MAH blades on made it a bit better as did reducing the flybar ratio. My next suggestion would be shortening the flybar. As you know, there's not a hell of a lot of options as yet for 5mm flybars so playing with paddles and weights is not as accessible as a 4mm machine.

The machine has new 9252's in it and I redid the setup myself, while I'm willing to admit I don't know EVERYTHING about setup, I know more than most, but am willing to try any suggestions you guys have. I'm very used to getting machines to fly well on account of my F3C background.

This machine has the uprated gearing for higher headspeed and it is definately better with this. It also has the exhaust diversion too.

I've never had a problem with the powerplant as such, that's been trouble free, the airframe itself though doesn't fly as well I expected. I know this is the case with the one in NZ as well. That guy was going to try a couple of other things (including reducing the travel of the flybar) and get back to me on how he went.

The reason why I think the Cuatro is a nicer solution than the Jetcopter is:
A: It's lighter.
B: It uses a higher headspeed.
C: Quieter (but still has that awesome sound to it).
D: Uses the well proven Robbe head.
E: Surprising fuel economy.

I like the fact it has a smaller powerplant in it also as the Jetcopter's engine as you know has tonnes more power than needed and all the extra engine is doing nothing for the Jetcopter's weight.

I don't own any turbine and have no real desire to do so just yet, and can't justify spending that amount of coin on a heli .

Just thought I'd write this to help anyone who is considering buying a turbine.

Morning Simon

A: How much lighter?
B: What was the Jetcopter headspeed and what is the Robbe headspeed?
C: How much quieter?
D: Any difference from the well proven Vario head?
E: What is the fuel consumption difference between the two?

I have 40.95 hours on one of my Jetcopters and 2.55 hours on the second Jetcopter. Just minutes on the Airwolf.

thanks

cheers

Simon,

The pitching you experienced is something I have seen also. The fix for that is replacing the o-rings or maybe add a spacer to tighten up the head. The pitching will also occur if the o-rings need lubrication. I can do 90 mph power dives without any pitching tendencies.

On another JetCopter I flew, the paddles where not aligned correctly. He was complaining about unstable hover. Well, adjusting the paddles turned it into another smooth hands off hovering machine.

Finally, if you want to go fast with the jetCopter, you have to ditch the Vario blades. They are great for scale flying, but 3D of FFF, fugetaboutit. The V-Blades are the best I have flown so far.

Did you ever contact the manufacturer for these hints, or?

Jetcopter SX

I have to say, i ordered the Jetcopter sx from air star international-
The buying experience was good and informative.
Richard stayed on top of the emails i sent, and replied promptly.
the heli arrived fully wrapped double times, it took longer for me to take off the wraps on everything, after a quick inventory, and found a few missing parts, a quick email to Richard was all it took to ensure the missing part is on its way.
As for building it, there are no manuals, and if you're like me, after building several sets of heli's, you are thoroughly familiar with many setups.
I did have to visit the website to glean some information from the pictures of the heli to ensure that some components are in the right place.

Overall, i have to rate the experience as an 8 out of 10, it would have been a 10 if the following had happened, manual, and inclusion of all parts needed to get in the air.

Like i said, overall, i would purchase again from these people.

i will be posting pictures in the future as soon as time permits.

a heli is like a marriage, most of the time it works, the rest it don't.

I’ve Been flying my Turbine for 2 years now, and the JetCat Turbine Mechanics, has virtually, been trouble free. (See Gallery)
My JetCopter SX is one of my most favorite of my many helicopters.
I think, as soon as you’re able experience the helicopter in flight
the Helicopter could possibly become one of your favorite
Helicopters to fly…. I know one thing is for sure, you’ll be getting
the attention of all your flying buddies as soon as you fire it up.

Positive Communicating Appreciated,

Mahalo Nui,
