Can someone tell me about what angle the tail blades are
on the Falcon AT NEUTRAL Servo position.?
(or maybe can send be a pic?) couagr@snowcrest.net
Also the servo is neutral and the 502 is rev? or the other ways?
Thanks!

tail position

I couldn't tell you about if its rev or not, because my servo is mounted on the boom.

I have found that a good starting place for tail rotor pitch, when the slider is in the middle that should be very close. you can watch the servo arm when hovering to see if needs to be adjusted. (if you can't see the servo with the canopy on, take it off first) Thats the method I use, seems to work pretty good.

Cougar,
Postion the tail rotor in-line with the boom. Now, fold the blades UPWARDS towards each othe till they nearly touch.

Set your linkage up such that you have ~20mm between the folded blades. This will put you within a click or two of trim. Just make the necessary mechanical adjustments till you have ZERO trim.

Good luck!

Cougar,
Here is the link to my Falcon pic folder:
Falcon Pics

As you can see I have the boom mount. Usually, I recommend doing it this way because of how smooth and direct the tail rotor control is. But, the Falcon is pretty tail heavy. If you move the servo back there you will end up having to rebalance the model. I will be moving mine back up-front after my next crash. I will try to use the stock pushrod and spend more time trying to get it silky smooth. So, do as you prefer but know that the CG can get off quite a bit.

Anyhow, as for servo/gyro control direction try this:
1) Transmitter input = trailing edge of tailblade should move in direction of rudder stick.
2) Gyro input = Move rudder stick right and notice servo horn direction. Now, leave rudder stick centered and with a jerk make the nose go left. Servo horn should go the same direction as when you made the rudder go right.

Got it?

Hey Lift how do you like the Raptor tail pitch slider on your Falcon?
What all do you have to change to do that mod? I have a Raptor 60 tail that I've been thinking about putting on my Falcon.

Svanwhy,
I am about as pleased with it as I can be. The tail holds well in fast backwards flight and is not blowing out. I like to test it by flying forward at average speed and doing a 180 degree piro and then maintain speed backwards. With the R60 parts it is holding great.

I do get a wah wah wah type sound which I think is from the tail. It sounds like GIO(gyro induced oscillation). I believe it is from some slop that has built up in the geartrain on my 9253 servo. But, I have not looked into it to much.

Here is a link to my orginal post:

Also, go to my Yahoo Photo Gallery from the link above and take a look at the tail. The only difference is that I am using NHP 95mm blades now.

Lift...???

Does this look about right at neutral?
ALSO is my steel ball in the right hole?
seems to me that it could snap off the ball
where it is.. anyways take a look-see! THANKS

the space you see is about 5 mm (slider to edge) also the right
blade is leading edge up

JUST ADDED another image

Cougar,
Nope, not right.

1) Move the ball on the tail rotor grips to the whole closest to the boom

2) Change the location of the pitch fork control links. These are the parts that actually snap onto the balls on the tail rotor grips. In your pic it appears that you have them snapped on to the wrong grip which is causing the severe angle of contact you are concerned about. Basically, you need to try to rotate the pitch slider assembly over and try to snap it on the other way.

Once you get that straightened out then do as instructed above. You want to try to get the ~20mm pitch with the servo trims and subtrims centered and the servo horn as close to 90 degrees to the pushrod as possible.

Just make certain that you set your limit such that there is no contact of the pitch slider with the bellcrank mounting lug.
