Howdy everyone and Happy New Year!,

Yes, I am new to this forum and still a novice with helis. I have a problem with my new Raptor 30 and I hope someone would be able to help me out. First some background info.

This is my second heli, my first one was a Nexus 30, I have assembled the Raptor and transferd all the stuff from the Nexus too it. I set it up, took it out to run and trim it up. I curently have the picth range for normal mode set to: (0) - (+8) deg.

The Weird Part

I can hover it normaly at about 6 deg. @ 1550-1600 RPM, but, the engine throttle curve has to be set at: 0,14,26,35,45.

I still, physicly have a lot more throttle to go. As you might imagine, my inital settings made the head speed a little too high, 2000+ That's when I , quickly, messed with the Th curve and got those new numbers.

In Idle1 my pitch range is (-4) - (+10) and it rockets up at "full" throttle.

The engine that I am using is just an OS32sxh. What gives?
Don't get me wrong; It flies great, ever better than the nexus, I just want to make it right.

Thanks for any help,
Kryoclasm

I'm still a newbie but that sounds like a linkage problem to me.
If the servo throw is longer than the throttle throw(same arm length but servo on hole farther from mount than throttle arm hole) the servo will move say 20 degrees while the throttle will move 40 degrees. Or vice-versa.

Certanly the end result is you're not gettin the pitch you think you are. could be binding in the thrust bearing as well.

I agree, sounds like the pitch/pitch curves are off as well as the throttle linkage is not linear at 90 degrees. If your wandering what I mean, get a copy of Rays book with the illustrations and instructions.

I've got a copy of Rays book on the way; I am sure that the throttle had full movement from nothing to full bore.
I readjusted my pitch +2deg across the board and installed a g-v1. This should help me get a good tach on the RPM's. I hovered it today and the sound didn't change too much with the gov at 1500 and with it off.
It did hover in a very solid and steady way, wow. I hope I never have to mess with those curves again .
Now I have to readjust the mixture, it seems to be too lean at low throttle and too rich at high throttle.

I'm glad I broke that engine in with my old Nexus.

Make sure your throttle linkage is linear before you start adjusting the needles etc. If it is not, you will never get it set smooth. Get some help if you don't know what I am talking about. Just making sure that the carb is all the way open at full stick and all the way closed when the stick is on the bottom is not right. Linear makes everything accurate and allows you to set the motor throughout its entire range. This is the most important step in getting the motor to run right.

just a thought, on my transmitter if i use travel adj (atv for futaba) on throttle or pitch to set up the overall range of servo throw it automatically adjusts the limmits on the pitch and throttle curves.

make sure you have a good mechanical setup i.e 0-100 on the travel adj (atv) on throttle. and use servo arm lengh to adjust overall throw and not the computer.

damm that even confussed me!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I've evened out the ATV's to 100% and setup the linkage using the 90deg rules.
With the stick down it will just stay in idle, all the way up is full throttle and there are no differential throws in the setup. It seems to work fine now except I have too much pitch so I hover at 1/3 stick. Time to drop the pitch a degree or two.

Thanks for the help folks!
