From your description of it's flying characteristics this machine will suit me well.

I finally have all of the electronics here. I started installing the servos lastnight, and I found that the hs-65hb will not fit in the mounting position for the alieron. It's touching the MR shaft, and still needs another 2-3mm to be flush. Now I'm going have to wait and see if the futaba s3153 I ordered will fit. UPS says it will be here wednesday. I was going to use it on the rudder instead of the hs-65mg I put on.

I do have a question about the a20-6xl and the 27t will this be too much for the stock blades? I seen a few people in the thread reccomend this combo so I was just trying to get an idea of what to expect from it.

It's looking like I'll have this thing ready to fly by the weekend assuming that the servo fits, and I dont run into anymore problems.

I think the motor and pinion combination you are using was used by Dwight. It should be fine.

I am using the A20-6XL with a 37 tooth pinion. This will give a head speed of between 2600 to 3000 depending on the battery. I have run a 40 tooth pinion and this turns over 3200 but it seems to be a little bit too much for the motor to handle during constant heavy 3D. In the 2 plus years of running these blades there has not been any failures due to head speed on my machines and they turn 2800 on a regular basis. With the 27 tooth you will only see 1850 to 2150 head speed. You will do better to get a bigger gear. I would look at using at least a 31 or 32. This will give you between 2200 to 2600.
If you go to my gallery you can download the Excel chart to figure the head speeds based on pinions you would use.

That was a mistype I'm running the 37t same as you Dwight. I cant wait to get this thing in the air. What battery are you running Dwight, and what kind of flying times are you getting out of it with this motor combo?

I only fly for 5 minutes on any pack to keep from damaging it. I would guess that 7 minutes is possible maybe even a little more depending on your flying style. I run 100% throttle once airborne so I am pulling max rpm all the time.

I run the Thunderpower Extreme 2.

Finally finished it up this weekend. I'm waiting on upgrade parts before I fly it. The drivetrain on this heli is so smooth, and quiet compared to my eskys. I do have a few questions about my transmitter setup. This is the first heli I've set up from scratch, and it's also my first electric. I'm using a Futaba T8UAF. What should my throttle, and pitch curves look like for hover, and idle up? I think I have them close but I'm just guessing.

Pitch curves are in the EP assembly manual. Use those as a good place to start, fine tune them as you fly the heli to match your style and the heli's power.

Throttle curves in a small electric heli are usually best set to be flat, with the motor running somewhere between about 85% and 100% of its full power.

I usually have my "normal" curve set up so that point 0 is low (or off) so that I can plug the battery in without getting whacked. The remaining points are usually about 85% across the board.

My "idle up" setting is pretty much wide open for all five points.

If you're just into hovering or simple forward flight, you could pick a normal mode throttle curve that shuts the motor off at low throttle - low trim, lets it begin to spin at low throttle - high trim, hovers at about 50-60% throttle, and is full open at full throttle. Again, adjust to get the final curve as you fly. Leave the full open curve for your idle up setting.

CALIBER 400 XP

I need help with motor and ESC set up for my Caliber 400XP. I'm currently using align BLG35 ESC and 3500Kv (OBL 29/35-10H/NO.2381) thunder tiger brushless motor with 25T pinion gear. My problem is after 2-3 minutes of flight, the motor gets really hot. The heat is almost comparable to a brushed motor. I checked the gear mesh, and they seems to be adjusted right. I used 11.1 3s lipo. Please help ASAP!
