Now I have problem with my tail boom holder. No matter how I tight up the screws to hold the tail boom, it will slide into the pulley in first 2 sec of the flight and then I can easily see the bell is loosen. Should I change a new pair of the boom holder?

I bought a full set of T-Rex 450SE with motor & ESC yesterday.
I was thinking to just buy the rotor head system (metal parts) and the swashplate for my EP400 but after I calculated everything up together, I decided to buy a full set. Now my plan is to put the whole rotor head of T-Rex450SE to EP400 first to play and finish assembling the rest of the T-Rex450SE at the same time.

It is taking a lot cheaper for T-Rex 450SE now. It is only USD357.50. If I buy the whole rotor head, it would be USD123.50.

HDS 877 digital servo works very great with 401 gyro.

A wrap of tape around the boom where the servo supports sit ought to stop them from creeping as you fly.

tail slide

Qooo
Dave is right, just went through the same thing. Use a vinyl tape around the boom and just cut out for the slots. 1 layer shoud be fine.

As you notice Mark moved the thread to e-Electric New & Emerging to see if it becomes more popular. I had requested if we could have a new forum. We shall see!!!!

Another relaxing flight of the EP this evening after work in the front yard. The red loctite on the pitch mechanism is holding well, the heli is flying great. Can't wait to get back out to the field to properly wring out the mod of the collective controls.

New upgraded model of EP400 is now called "EP Caliber 400 XP" from Kyosho's official website.

Looks like a metal swashplate, boom mounted TR servo, and they took up my idea of mounting the battery up front! And dumped the brushed motor and recommend a brushless 400 class motor -- as I suggested from the start. Maybe Kyosho DOES listen.

Wonder where I send my request for royalties!

Nice

Take a close look at the Kyoshos XP picture. This one may have Gryo problems

helibob -- I just got home from work, and it was long hard day at the millstone, but I see a gyro mounted on the top-rear, a servo on the boom, and wires coming out of all the holes they should...so what am I missing about the gyro?

BTW -- I ran that page through Babel Fish to get a translation into English. Always a riot when Babel Fish gets through with it, but..one thing I did pick up out of the translation is that the wood rotor blades that are on the XP in the picture apparently don't come with the kit, but they recommend purchasing some 285 mm rotor blades that are readily available on the open market. NO names were mentioned, but it appears this may be a kit sold without blades and you need to go find your own.

And Like the new Caliber 3, it will be available in July 2006.

It's list price is about $28 more than the standard EP 400 if you compare prices on the website. Wonder how much it would cost to upgrade an EP to an XP?

It's mounted sideways. Unless becauses it's mounted on the same plane, its ok??

Doesn't matter, it is sensing rotation about an axis that is vertical, and goes through its middle, there is no "forward" or "backward". Otherwise, you'd had trouble flying the heli dependent upon which direction you were flying.

If you mount it upside down, it will still work, only its commands will be reversed from that if it were right side up.

I have mine mounted the same way, they work just fine.

This word from HeliK, about the soon-to-be-released EP400 XP:

Quote
C-400 XP

The Caliber 400 XP was at the RCX show. The swash is metal and all ball links are now used, no Z-bends. Most of the linkage design has changed also, very nice. From the looks of it this will be a very good flyer.

Let's see, if that's the case, couple those features with the metal swashplate, the boom mounted TR servo, and the up front battery mount -- that seems to address quite a few of the initial things I pointed out early in this thread that needed to be fixed by Kyosho. I think they actually DO listen for a change.

Keep those fingers crossed and let's see what July brings us.

Found a picture of the 400 XP here http://www.rcx.com/rx/images/06cove...ts/heli1_lg.jpg

Picture text; Kyosho's prototype Caliber 400 XP heli puts on a show. This extreme 3D micro machine features an aluminum swashplate, ball-joint rod ends and an aluminum pitch ring and ball-bearing tail slider.

This is not the XP. This is the standard 400 with a nice painted canopy. I know this as I was there doing the flying with the pilot. If it says it is the XP it is mislabled.

Hi Dwight
You can check the picture label here http://www.rcx.com/coverage06/cov_pagefour.asp
if you expand the picture of the heli.
Whats main visual difference between the Standard 400 and the XP ?
New canopy ? New tail feathers ? etc.

Couldn't be the XP, it has not got a tail boom mounted servo. Here are the Kyosho XP pics:

Man, this is one tough bird.

I finally got a nice night to fly. Almost no wind, cool, very pleasant evening. The EP flies great. Nice loops, multiple rolls in sequence, inverted, even an outside loop. But I pushed it a bit too far, and drilled the EP into the ground, wide open. I saw pieces fly. As I walked over to pick up the pieces, I was imagining how bad the damage might be.

To my surprise, the stuff that I saw fly was junk on the ground being kicked up by the main rotor blades.

The damage? A set of gears (CA2020) and a main rotor shaft that got bent (CA2017). That's it.

If this had been one of my T-Rexes, I'd be replacing just about everything from the frame on up.

The more I fly the EP, the more I like it. Great little heli.

I just placed an order for the parts to fix my EP 400. A full-bore crash into the turf. Cost to repair? $29.86, inlcuding almost $7 in shipping.

With the great service I'm getting from Chris at RC Heliworks, I suspect this bird will be back in the air about next Wednesday.

As I said, this is one tough heli. I bent the MR shaft, spindle shaft, wiped out the two plastic gears and a small tubular piece at the bottom end of the MR shaft.

Everything else survived, unscathed.
