Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Slow takeoff with fiberglass blades

I recently got a set of the 550mm symmetrical FRP blades from heli-world for my Hawk IV. These blades don't have nearly the climb of the original woodies. When on the ground and I go into Idle Up, then quickly to full collective the helicopter lifts off crisply, but not nearly as quick as it did with the woodies. Overall, they don't seem to have nearly the lift of the woodies. Anyone else experience this? Is this normal for fully symmetrical blades?

Thanks for your help.

We have lift off

Have you re-adjusted your throttle/pitch curves?

Few blades work at their optimum using the same throttle/pitch curves. and rotor speeds.

What FRP blades?

Well I use to have a similar problem with some NHP symetrical blades.

The problem is that since the wood ones are semisymetrical they give the heli more lift with less pitch.

CURE:
You have to increase your pitch settings......For example if you have on your 5 point 12 degress you have to increase to 13 or 14

Also MAYBE you have to adjust yout thlottle curve too.

Hope this help you,

Good luck,

Isaac

I found the same thing when I went from woodies to the frp blades. had to redo all my curves.
Never liked them as much as the woodies (crashed shortly thereafter so I'm back to wood)

You need more pitch.

The FRP blades have less drag and will spin faster at any given throttle setting. So you end up with a screaming rotor head and no lift. When I switched to FRP blades on my Hawk IV (and Shuttle Plus), my curves all changed dramatically. If you can imagine a concave pitch curve and convex throttle curve for the wood blades, they reversed to convex pitch curve and concave throttle curve with composites.

Add 3 or 4 degrees of pitch to every point on the curve and see if it helps. That's what it took for my Hawk.

I resently got a set of sab and yes redo your pitch curve , but its worth the extra money over wood the motor never boggs any more in tumbles and you shouldent have to ballance them. and outos like a feather than with wood. also no shrink wrap to tighten.

Success

I bumped my pitch settings up and the performance increased dramatically. Thats all I needed. Thanks for everyone's help.

Make sure your thrust bearings are installed properly in the grips.

Already made that mistake

I made that mistake awhile back. It didn't fly worth a darn.
