Buying a Tiger 50 . . .

First choice is your LHS (local hobby shop).

Second choice is direct from us.

Why not buy direct from us? Because we're not a hobby shop, we're a distributor! We're really your last resort when a hobby dealer either doesn't carry our product line, and/or doesn't want to carry our product line.

Ideally, your LHS will be there for "immediate" help and assistance versus us (who are a phone call away). But make no mistake, we can and will help you, because after all, we're here to serve you! But quite frankly, we've determined the very best way to serve you is through a hobby shop!

Speaking of assistance; we've got a dedicated cadre of Audacious Crew Members - our field reps - who also stand ready to assist. In addition, Tiger owners are always ready to help a fellow helicopter enthusiast. Both are prepared to help . . . even if they're flying other than a Tiger! Finally, help is available via the Internet through our own support forum, or through private forums like RunRyder, RC Universe, or HeliFreak.

Finally, if for whatever reason you ever feel you're not getting the level of service you deserve, you can call and ask for me (the chief cook and bottle washer of this little circus) and I'll move Heaven and Earyth to help you.

Do you have a name or contact person or hobby shop in the Tulsa, Ok. area? I know of three hobby shops here locally and none of them carry your line and two of the three didnt even know who you were so I am thinking that maybe purchasing directly from you may be my only alternative.

Where do you prefer to shop in Tulsa? I spoke with David the other day so I know Wing 'N Things is closing. Do you shop at Model Works? Charles is the heli guy there. Then there's Marshall at Action Hobbies. Who else is there? Naturally, if none of these suit you, then of course you can pick one up through us!

Sad to say, I don't have anyone in Birmingham at this time. What's really sad is B'ham is what i consider my home stomping grounds. If you're familiar with Homewood Toy and Hobby as well as Bill Norman, then you might find in interesting to know that Bill is who taught me to fly fixed-ing in the early 70s. Later, we I returned to study for another degree at the University in the early 80s-early 90s, I made the most progress in rotory-wing with friends in both Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

At that time, the crowd I hung out with included a fellow who is no longer active in helis by the name of Gary Wright, a well as David Harkey who is quite active to this day. In fact, the first time I ever saw a simulator was at David's house. It was called a Skylark and was a nifty tool for learning to hover. That's where I first tried to nose-in hover (at Gary's insistence). Anyway, I went back to Tuscaloosa, made a new training gear and strapped it on, and along with a gallon of fuel and determination to succeed, went out to learn nose-in for real. Turns out the time on the Skylark helped me!

Speaking of simulators, of course that was in the day of wire frame models and 286 computers were giving way to 386 computers. David has always been one of those guys on the cutting edge. Come to think of it, that's when I also learned how to dial indicate a start shaft because I had a Schlutter Scout II in those days and David took me under wing, dragged me back to his house and did it to overcome a persistent vibration in my Scout. Ahh, the memories.

Anyway, back to your question. I'm sorry to say I don't have a dealer for the Tiger 50 helicopter in that area, so I may be the source of last resort for you. However, if there is a dealer whom you think would stock it in that neck of the woods, I'd appreciate a PM to that effect (so I may contact them to gage their interest). Alternatively, feel free to call or e-mail me directly at:

Hi jinx
both the Hawk and Tiger are nice machines i bought a Tiger to practice 3d maneuvers And i tell you what teh parts count is low in the Tiger which means you can plow it in the ground with in minutes you can have it going again un like my 90 size Minaiture aircrafts i plow one of those in the ground and i spend nights repairing and re setting stuff up
T he tiger is simple and straight to the point it wil do any 3d maneuver you can throw @it as well as hover
Ricks has the 401 and 9254 for 182.00 I woudl personally buy a 401 and 9254 set up to learn with that way you arre not fighting the tail and it will hold rock solid and it makes it alot easier to concentrate on hovering and moving into forward flight
I had some one @ the local feild today comment on how hard i was flying my Tiger they didnt think a 300 dollar heli could fly like that

my .02 $

John, was Gary Wright the same guy in one of you Model Sport videos using the "cut in half tennis ball and hook" to learn hovering skills? I use that when I teach (attempt to teach ) some new pilots. Any way I was talking to Craig of RC Car Store in Danvers MA and he may be interested in carrying your product. He knows who you are and was wondering what happened to you. I used to bug him for the latest videos. Any way you may want to contact him as more and more members of my club are wanting to get into helis. There's an eager market waiting to be tapped here The Hawk is a good heli but I find that replacement parts cost as much as a new heli after a good crash.
From my readings about Audacity it seems to be very reasonable and affordable. I still want to see one up close and personal.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll contact Craig.

Gary Wright, inventor of the electric model airplance called an E3D is the friend who helped me the most back when I was learing to fly helis while I was attending the University of Alabama as I sought my high school math and science teaching credentials (I first attended while getting my undergraduate degree as an engineer in the late 70s early 80s). Gary is who insisted I learn to hover nose-in (ca. 1990-91, or so), and this skill has been invalueable to me. I believe everyone should practice it until they become proficient and comfortable doing it.

However, the inventor of the tennis ball trick is yet another friend of mine named Wright. That's Donnie Wright you're thinking of. He's, a flight engineer on the test program that's flying V-22 Opreys for the Air Force. That tennis ball trick is pretty good, eh? We featured it in the MS0305 issue of modelSPORT video magazine.

modelSPORT MS0305

As for modelSPORT video magazine, as soon as we get our studio repaired from the Hurricane Charlie damage, we'll be back in business! Meanwhile, we have back issues available.

For those who don't remember, we had some pretty severe hurricanes last year in Florida. As our friends and neighbors on the Gulf Coast will soon discover, rebuilding may take longer than you might think. We're at 1 year, 4 months - and counting - and no, we didn't get any FEMA money (and the insurance payout was a joke). A bad joke at that.

Before Hurricane Charlie

Afterwards . . .

Here's the roof!

Inside damage

Another view of the inside.

. . . but we'll be back, because while we may be down, we're definitely not out! Meanwhile, I have plenty to keep me busy with Audacity Models.

Folks, the important issue to remember is that "things" can be repaired and replaced. We thank God nobody was hurt . . . you have to keep perspective you know. Regardless, we've been blessed, so we count our blessings daily, and give thanks as is appropriate.

Wow,

You got hit as bad as we did down here in Port Charlotte, I didn't realise it did that much damage up your neck of the woods, half the county down here still isn't rebuilt so I can feel you pain. My neighbor just had her roof replaced about a month ago.

Yeah, and what with the terrible damage done to the Gulf Coast, it seems that Congress has forgotten what was inflicted upon Florida last year. Specifically, I speak of the tax breaks being enacted for residents and businesses of the Gullf Coast (not that they don't deserve them) which specifically only include Hurricane Katrina losses. Oh well, as it says in the Book, this too shall pass.

Personally I believe we are all challenged to our ability to handle aversity. Some are strong enough to handle obstacles and move forward. Others can't (or won't) move on without assistance. That said, we are fortunate to live in a country that has the ability to provide assistance when needed. Too bad it isn't distributed more evenly.

Speaking of challenged, you should see me fly

I'll admit I'm not a great pilot, but I can hover with the best of them.

I have a Century Hawk Pro. But give my vote to Tiger.

Century is very short on parts. My heli has been grounded because of this shortage. I wish I was told before I bought Century.

Oh well.

And they have not made any steps to satisfy my lack of parts. Oh.. Except 2 reps offered parts from their personal inventories.

Yup. Your product looks attractive right now.

I am looking to re-sell helis here in Abaco. I started a plane club years ago and now some of the guys are interested in the helis. I was the guinea pig. Now they are waiting to see if I get my problems sorted out. They keep pressing me, so maybe I will give your Tiger 50 a try.

Mild to wild is what we will need. Easy to set up, etc. Low parts count. Good customer service. These are the things that will make the difference for us. Looks like your product fits the bill.

Tiger 50 and Scale Fuselages?

I was wondering what scale fuselages have been fit on the tiger? I am new to the hobby and I will go into scale after my flight skills are up to the task. I am leaning towards the Tiger 50 as the heli I will purchase but I need to know that there will be scale fuselages that will fit on the Tiger. Can anyone help with this question?

The Tiger 50 fits in any of the 50-class fuselages available, i.e. the Funkey fuselages available from Century. Basically, anywhere the Raptor/Sceadu/Raven fit, so does the Tiger. I know of a fellow who's installed a Tiger in Hughes 500, and another guy is installing one into a Bell 222.

What's particularly nice about the Tiger vs. the other 50-class birds is that because the servos are mounted directly in the frame, the radio platform only supports the receiver and battery. Thus, in a scale ship you can leave it off completely since you can locate those items anywhere within the fuselage! The means you then don't have ugly mechanics poking into the cockpit area so you can do some nice detailing specifically where everybody's eye is automatically drawn. Remember, the area cockpit of a scale machine is where everybody automatically looks, understand? What to see what I mean? Eyeball these photos and erflect on what you spend time looking at . . .
