Chuck you did a awesome job on the wiring and layout there fella
!! I am very anal about that stuff as well. I see so many peoples wiring jobs that give me absolute nightmares! I just had to shoot in here and say that I personally like to see people take their time and do nice wiring and layouts as you have so kudos to you!! If you decide you ever want to sell that bird let me know, I would not require the co-pilot though

BTW you have Some pics with canopy, that would be cool!

you could do that and since i have yet to fly that heli i could not tell you how good or bad it flyies - what i do know is that when the raptors crashes the cost to get back up is much less than ION

huh? like most real airplanes , helis are not made to crash , yes we do crash them , but thats part of flying the big boys , but to get to the bottom of the barrel here, add everything needed to get a crappy rappy that can hold up piles of flights , then see what you have , look at Alans rappy 90 , once you do the recomended mods , you have 2000 bucks in the heli alone just to be able to withstand the punishment of hard 3D , same thing with the 50 , bling the head out so it can withstand hard 3D , then convert everything to electric or even worse , get the Xero G for it , more cash , batteries and motor isnt cheap , put it all together and its not stock anymore and requires parts that cost way more than the stock parts when you crash,
Ion right out of the box , dont need anything but the knowledge of how electrics work , and picking the right motor to make you smile ear to ear and make the nitro guys open there mouths in disbelief , that one of the best feeling you can get ,
I have never seen a rappy E do this

Nice vid Tony. And I thought I have seen all your videos. Have you tried one of Gary'S ORKs in the ION yet?

I've thought about getting an ION. What's the cost out the door with a couple packs, the Schulze 160, Actro, etc.?

hey Chuck , well its not cheap either , but Im sure happy with both my Ions and with a a 50 ion I just bought from my cuz , which is a cut down version of the big Ion , still dont save money in a crash , I dont think anyone saves money in any crash, . but it does happen,
the Video just showed how many watts I could get through the heli , that was with 710 MAH tappers , you should see the video of the same setup with the blade bitting 710 V flashers , hit 4358 watts , 4000 watts all day long that motor (actro 32-4) can handle .
The 40-160 is the big price jump with this heli , 650 bucks , but its the only one proven to handle HV or up to 60 volts which Im running 58 V. one other good thing is how well it handles lower throttle % wich most people run the max on . as you know anything under 85% will shut down , this one dont , 160 continues amps and 210 peak amps is GREAT! well worth it in my book ,
Steves Orks can't hang with the actros yet ! to small , the 1912 can dish out plenty of power that can match the 32-3 , but you need CO2 to keep it cool , but to tell the truth , no one knows how its going to hold up to summer heat yet! it might do well and have a running temp and stay there , the other problem is , hard to get the motor , I do think the 1915 will be the one to keep up with the actro 32-?? series motors .
price of the heli will determan what you want as far as power, stock setup , hacker , will run 1400 bucks , I ordered mine without the hacker setup and a actro mount kit ,
batteries , 2 5s4p 6 to 800 , could be deals out there , so watch for them , and your radio gear , blades , I have another video in my gallery of my 10s4p Ion that has about 8% less power than my 14s so you can see what you will get .
I did do a few hop ups the first of the winters , 14mz , and slapped on a TJ pro to get the ultimate gov control , 80% will be so smooth , cant wait to try it
Im not that great at flying yet , this Ion was the reason of doing stunts I never thought about doing . next spring , I will be 70% better , SIM SIM and more SIM , I sure like to do inverted autos

Tony

4,000 watts! You're definately gettin R done. I'm trying to convert all my eRapps to the 10S lipos. I figured that if I ever get an Ion that I could slap a couple of my 10S2P's on there and go fly.

hey , I do think there is a place for guys that like rappies , it is fun to hop one up , takes a pile of cash , but thats what its about , " like " soupin up the car. Im thinking about getting a gaser again , to practice my flying when spring comes , dumb thumbing prepared , which I did good this year , didnt do any dumb thumbing , to high up but did have some things fall of the heli due to my dumb thinking , left something loose after IRCHA , flew the 10s Ion and something flew off the tail when going straight up doing a 540 , in the second piro , something flew off , then I tried to get it level like stirring the stick , got it inverted , and then the hole tail flew off , gear box and all , boom was still on, the heli really started to spin then , its hard to turn a heli over with power and the tail spinning in a blur, but I did get it turned over and hit throttle hold , hard landing over a small hill, broke the carbon gear , gearbox is still somewhere out there , found the drive shaft though ,
I dont know about 2 10s2p packs , Charlie kinda looked down on that , but it does seam like it will work fine in my book

The conversion from MS looked convenient, but from the demo-video it didnt look too powerful. I may be wrong but it seemed to bog during tic-tocs?

That was the first impresion I had, heli looks to work ok but lacks any grunt when its needed in demanding manouvers

Think I'm glad I opted for the 600ep

I built my E raptor for $1250

Used raptor 50 RTF $600 (-TX/RX)
TPpacks conversion kit w/ R30 pinion and spur $60
ORK 1912 1.5Y $200
Jazz 55-10-32 $270
UBEC $40
20 cell GP3300 NIMH battery for hovering $90

I still need to get lipos though
I figure they will cost me about $350 for a 10s2p pack
(I am going to build my own)

I will have a build thread on converting my R50 here in a week or so.....

Something to look into for batteries is the new Li-ions that are in a bunch of tool batteries. There is a great thread over on RC groups in the electric heli section about them. Might even get me back into electrics, price isn't too far off nicd/nimh, and performance is very close to Lipos with 2c and 3c charging rates.

yes I have seen the million post thread. They look promising! Lipos will go down here in a couple of years I hope.... they will have to sooner or later. Then everyone can afford to convert!!!

LiPo prices have just gone down thanks to the power tool industry. There are some new cells called V28 (search eBay for V28 battery). They have a strong metal case for safety and cost a lot less.

Also this summer there is suppose to be several more cells available for power tools that should really bring down the cost. After that I would expect a dramatic drop in hobby LiPo battery prices.

I think that this fall you will be able to do a Raptor EP 50 for a very reasonable price.
