Very good thought - we''ll have to see what's up. Maybe I can crank up the Revo and find enough power for the tail.

I will still lookout for a smallish pinion too, so I can try 3s.

I found an old Kyosho steel pinion, 7T, .5mod.

It was for the @12 RC-Car. It looks like it would be good to go. I am trying to see if anyone has them left.

a 7T pinion would give ~ 1900RPM head speed on 3S lipo with 4100kv brushless (rough estimate)

EDIT/UPDATE - I had to special order the 7T pinion from Kyosho - it will be 6-8 weeks before it gets here I would have ordered more, but want to make sure this will fly...

Other people have used this in heli applications so I have confidence it's workable.

I already got the motor and esc in the mail today! The included 10T pinion is a perfect match to our main gears. The motor has a 2 year warranty from Century - not bad for $24.

I will try and get some 2s lipo setups tested this weekend.

I'm starting to zero in on the Himaxx 2015-4100 for myself.

I have the same motor and a CC PHX10 ESC that I am robbing from my hummerV1. I think anything more than a 10A ESC on a micro is overkill/overcost.
The Himaxx motor has been great on the HV1 with a 10t pinion, I tried a 12t for kicks and while I got great headspeed (don't have a number as I have no tach) it made the motor work a bit too much. I wouldn't mind trying an 8t on the blade but for now I'll see what this combo with a 10t does.

FlyrEric - which battery do you use? Do you know how many teeth on your main gear? Thanks!!!

stealth love the post. I installed a brushless in the blade and it is a totally different heli. I love it, no problem with power now, loops and rolls are alot easier with more power and head speed. I have a electrifly ammo 3600kv motor w/ 25 amp speed cont. I had a 9t pinion to much head speed so today I installed a 8t and will see how it performs tommorow.

awesome - 3600kv on 3s with 8t sounds about right. I wish I could find a 6t for my 4100kv - still afraid the 7t will be too much speed. I will try out my 2s setup first.

I am now thinking a 2800 or 3200kv motor with 9T-11T may be the ideal setup for 3s - but for $24 I'll make it work

Too much head speed...

Hi, i found whit himax 4100 and 8t, still have problem whit handle the tail, too much head speed, i'm using direct drive but the gws motor dont have enought rpm to control the torque, i think low the pinion to 7t or possibly change the motor to less kv..

I'm charging batteries.....

Betofazzo - try a 2-cell lipo instead of 3-cell, and 9 or 10t pinion... Let us know how that works out.

I just ordered a razor RZ 350 for mine! It has a KV rating of 4300
Maybe this mod needs to be done along with switching it over to a computer radio to control head speed. I will be installing an 8 tooth pinion to increase flight time!

Stealth916,
wondering how you made out with your 2cell lipo flight times?I have the same motor coming from heli-world Is the shaft size the same as our stock blade motor ?(will use 9tooth to help with head speed)Also , is there room for a heat sink?I have one of those coming as well

I haven't flown my brushless yet. I need to change over to my Futaba Tx and get everything (curves/endpoints/expo) dialed in, before I change out the motor.

The motor is a slightly smaller diamter, ~.750" vs ~.950" - so you need a smaller heatsink, but there will be room for it.

The shaft is the same size.

I just came in from the driveway after a 10 minute flight with my chili pepper brushless. It flies very well and it was about 65 and windless so I had a ball cruising over the neighbors' houses. I am currently using the symmetrical blades. I have the parts for the DD conversion and am wondering if I should do it yet? Do you guys like the flat bottom or symmetrical blades better for just cruising around?

Betofazzo,

Thats strange I have the exact same setup of himax 2015-4100 with 8T, it works great with gws DD. What prop do you use, I found 4025 works great, 4530 made the motor too hot. Or it could be your motor dying?

Awais

do you use 2s or 3s lipo? How much REVO is left in the pot adjustment, or is it cranked up all the way? What do you think of your headspeed? Thanks!

I've been using 3s lipos, stock cp2 1000mAh and TP 1320mAh PL. My revo pot is about horizontal (3 o clock). But I constantly have to trim the rudder on the tx.

Headspeed is very decent. Its quite a bit faster compared to the stock motor, but it isn't anything crazy. I don't have a tach, by doing a lil math it comes out to be 4100 * 8 / 140 * 11.1 = 2600 rpm. It doesn't sound like 2600, probably near 2200.

What exactly happens to the heli. Does the tail drift away or it can't keep up at all?

Check if you have the correct motor. It should be edp-50/h, the h stands for high voltage. It has a grey back.

Check out this Ultrafly motor...

UltraFly C/13/28H

It has an internal cooling fan. It is 45.5g, 2.3mm shaft - 2750kv torque monster.

Under load, a 10T pinion on 3S should be good for 1800RPM, 11T should be good for 2000RPM.

They say this motor's core deosn't get over 90F at 180watts constant!! It is rated for 200 watts. That will blow your hair back. That is good for some seriously hard 3D. They claim the motor stays cool even in scale installations.

This motor will handle up to 6s lipo!!

This could be more like a Trex motor - they say it is a Speed 400 or 480 replacement. But it only weighs 45.5 grams and 1" diameter.

I may have to try one in the Trex first.
