Dave,

The three spots on the board you need to solder to are the contacts where the channel 3 pins are. The neg. wire is on the left, the pos. wire is in the middle and the signal is the one on the right. This is how the CC25 get its control signal.

Are you soldering the Red Lead from the ESC as well? Normally when a Rx is getting its power from another source such as a UBEC we cut and tape off the Red Lead. You need only the Negative and Signal leads. Having power coming from 2 different sources could cause problems.

Gary, that is a good point. Makes sense to only hook up the grnd and signal wires, 'cuz the reciever is already getting pwr. I will cut the red wire and see if it still works.

Gary you are right. You only need to hook up the black and white wires. So simple, I don't know why I did not think of that.

is it possible to use a y harness to connect to the third channel on the receiver instead of soldering to the receiver?

Anything is possible. There is no easy way to do that. Maybe if you used a extension for channel 4 and a Y harness for channel 3 to plug the reciever to the gyro/mixer. That would work, but then the reciever will not fit back in the case.

Questions:

Do you still have the stock ESC plugged into channel 3 along with the brushless ESC? Or did you sever the connection between the stock mixer/gyro board and Ch3 on the stock Rx?

Does the REVO pot still have any effect?

Hope you find that smaller pinion before parts go a'flyin :-)

Thanks for the info!

Betafazo, I am not familiar with the hummingbird.

stealth916,Yes the stock esc is still hooked up to ch.3 and 4 So the mixer and gyro for the tail motor, still works.
The brushless esc only needs the signal and neg. wires hooked to ch.3 cause the reciever is already getting pwr from the mixer/gyro.
Once I installed the GWS reciever I was able to get the headspeed under control with a computer radio.

Dave,

I see that you added a RX, so I would guess that the 4:1 RX is not being used to control the brushless any longer? Was the motor speed not controllable through the 4:1 with a throttle curve on the TX?

You do not have to change your Rx to use a computer radio.

The stock 4-in-1 will work with Futaba radios. You just need a single conversion Futaba 'Short' crystal - avail fromn TYower Hobbies and others.

The people who are switching to GWS Rx are probably doing it because they have JR radios. The stock 4-in-1 will only work with Futaba/Hitec.

Dave763, thanks for posting. Working with Slipknot I got mine up and running. E[Flight 370 and CC25. Followed what you did and even did some of my own thing and it is perfect...longer flight times and much much stronger response. Thanks

Hey

Alright, I'm going to make this my next upgrade. I need some help choosing the most appropriate ESC and brushless motor to do the
job. I intend to use the stock radio so I guess I need a combo that will work with the stock built in pitch curves. I need a motor that will outperform the stock brushed motor while not shedding parts at high power.
Can anyone help me?

Regards, Brett

One more thing

How well is the tail coping with the increased (insane) amounts of power? I'm running a direct drive 3x2 tail.

Riverman, I am still using the stock tail motor and gear, with no problems.
As far as which motor to use with the stock transmitter, sorry I don't know.
There is a way to figure the headspeed, if you know the gear ratio the batt. voltage and the kv rating of the motor. I don't know how.

Kahunadad glad to hear it's working out for you.

Betfazzo, your welcome. My blade flys great now. seems more stable(higher headspeed?)

Which pinion..

Hello Dave,,.. which pinion you use.. i have the Himax 4100, 1320 thp batt, i think 8t right?,, because 10t is too much speed..bye..

My opinion, why take a bird that the #1 thing going for it is its cost, cost to repair, and the fact that with a little work can out fly most of our abilitys.I did the DD mod and auto rotate gear on mine and love it.
I own a hopped up sogun and a trex.I take all of them to the park and at the end of the day the blade is the only one flying know now we all like to tinker with this stuff, hell its the most of the fun,but if you start adding esc, brushless motors, ect. Why not go buy a 400 class bird thats made to take the power and weight. The truth of the matter is the little 3MM main shaft and plastic stand offs and the simple head set up will handel only so much before it becomes dangerous!I went down all of these paths that are being thrown about and went threw 10 or so main frames, snapping stand offs. But what stopped me is when the head assembley came apart with my little girl in the back yard, she or I could have been badly hurt!So I put the stock motor@ 4-1 back in left the DD and auto gear and can fly it for hours with no probs.
Im not trying to sound like your mothers,I did it all, just sharing my opinion, and yes I HAVE A A--HOLE

Sucess!....

Good result using 8t pinion (himax 4100) enought head speed, the heli become more stable is another thing my friend,,.. yes this is the right setup. i add a litle revo mix for my dd gws/4530 prop,, again i enjoy fly this litle bird..many thanks..

Pd: This is the easy modification i ever made in a electric heli, whit very good result, only purchase one brushless motor, one esc (15amp), one female servo connector, 8t hpi pinion, you will be amazed how perform after this simple low cost mod. Total price about 75 dollar.. (this item's already drop prices in many web pages).
