e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Brushless motor and stock 4in1 works!

I used a female servo ext. made a small pigtail that I soldered to ch. 3 on the stock recever. That is where the ESC plugs in. Then I made a Y ( one female and two male JST connectors) so I can plug the 4in1 and the ESC both into the lion 3 cell battery. You could just wire the two together. I will do that, now that I know it works.

Hello

Let me see if I got this right. Channel three on the stock Rx can be used as a throttle input into a brushless ESC? That sounds too good to be true! Why are all these other guys going completely seperate on the Blade when all they want is a brushless main motor?
Don't get me wrong! If this works I'll order parts for it soon. Please advise on what kind of motor, esc, and pinion you're using. I find this really fascinating.

Thanks for the input! Brett

The setup I have is a CC 25 and a Razor 350 4100kv motor, with a 10T pinion on 3 cell 1200mah lipo. Having said that, I'll tell you this is not the best motor/pinion combo. If you were to use a computer radio to change the throttle and pitch curves it might be ok. I think a crystal change in the reciever would allow you to do that. I do not know what channels will work. There is a thread on that.
When you use the stock transmitter, you are stuck with the curves that are set at the factory. So with the Razor 350 and a 10T pinion the headspeed is insane. I kinda like it, but I'm not sure how safe it is.
So far no problems running it this way, the 4in1 and the ESC both get plugged into the battery. The only hard part is soldering a connector to channel 3 in the reciever so you can hook up the input to the ESC.
I think I am going to get a GWS 6 ch. reciever and use it in conjunction with the 4in1 and my 9C.
I love to tinker ...LOL

I have pics, but I don't know how to post them. It looks like I have to wait till monday to do that.
The wiring is very simple. A brushless ESC normaly gets plugged into channel 3 on a reciever. In this reciever ch. 3 and 4 have the pins sticking out the other side so it can plug into the mixer/gyro. You need to hook the brushless ESC to channel 3, so you have to either solder the ESC to the reciever board at ch. 3 or solder a female servo plug to the reciver board at ch.3 and plug the brushless ESC into that.
Power from the battery has to go to the power input leads on the brushless ESC as wll as the power input leads on the 4in1.

Hope this helps.

How many flights do you have with this setup? Also did you notice an increased performance by installing the brushless motor?

I have got about 20 flights with the Razor. The headspeed is way to high.To say it has more power with the Razor is a understatment.
I have to say I like it ....I just need to get a 8T pinion.

Hey dave, you can send me the pics on my e-mail and i can put them on my photobucket thing and give you the links for you to post them on here if you like?

This is cool cause I already have a CC 25.Do you think a AXI 2212/34 will work?

One thing i'm rather confused on is how you soldered the ESC and wired everything together.Definitley will need to see pics cause now you got me wanting to do this.LOL The headspeed is a good thing man!!

Would the Battery Wiring be like this?

Im gonna use this motor when I do this.

RPM/Volt (Kv): 4100
Resistance (Ri): .1 ohms
Idle Current (Io): 1A @10V
Shaft Diameter: 2mm

One of my questions is,Is it comfortable to fly in idle up with the stock pitch curves and throttle curves?

I too would like more info. I had wanted to do this but was told it could not be done. Being new i believed it. I guess anything can be done if one puts their mind to it...I am however concerned that the 4-1 cannot handle the amperage that the motor draws. Of course without knowing (I am new to this) I cannot be sure. It would be great to put an esc, brushless motor, gyro and lipo pack in but I don't have any laying around to use and I would hate to buy one and find out it won't work..

I was also wondering that very same thing.I was worried about the amp draw to the 4 in 1

The 4in1 is only running the tail motor. The amps needed for the main motor do not pass through the 4in1. Rather the brushless speed controler handles that load. Slipknot, yes that is the correct way to wire the power wires. You still need to hook up the signal from ch 3 on the reciever to the Brushless controller. I'll send the pics I have.

need to end the confusion...

the 4 in 1 is not being used to control the brushless motor...he has a CC25 brushless controller for that.

I think he is just still using the 4 in 1 for the tail and servos

Midwestpilot you are correct. The 4in1 is setup just like it comes out of the box. servos and tail motor are still hooked up like normal.
The socket on the 4in1 where the main motor was plugged in is not used.
You will see the servos are plugged into channels 1,2,and 6.Take out the four screws and open the case. You may want to mark the servo plugs so you don't mix them up.
Carefully pry up the reciever starting at the end where the pins are, and unplug the board from the gyro/mixer. Now you can see the pins for channels 3 and 4 are turned around. You need those two sets of pins to make the tail work, so be careful when you solder onto ch 3. not to unsolder those pins.
The three spots on the board you need to solder to are the contacts where the channel 3 pins are. The neg. wire is on the left, the pos. wire is in the middle and the signal is the one on the right. This is how the CC25 get its control signal.\

To make a correction, only the negative and signal wires get soldered to the board. The reciever is already powered, so the red wire is not hooked up.

Thanks for getting the pics up for me. Since I took these I have moved the ESC to the battery tray 'cause I was getting some glitching with it on top of the reciever. No problems since moving it.

One nice thing about using a plug for the ESC is, if ever you decide to put the brushed motor back in, its no problem to unplug the ESC and plug the brushed motor back into the 4in1.
