Venom.

I'm using one (I have 3) on my R22 / OS 50, I like it.... It's telling me that I'm running about 190~210 deg! That seems kinda cool to me and maybe I can lean the engine a bit more, I'm on my 7th gal with this engine and it's making some serious power....even though my heli is overweight (8.5lbs) it dosen't seem to matter and I can overspeed the head if not carefull, I keep cutting back the throttle curve but it's getting so low that I'm thinking something else has to change....
But the Venom works great.....

Hello Helioten,

I asked Heliproz about the Venom Temp Monitor w/Hi Hold from HeliProz and it can display either farenheit or celsius. So it is a goot tool also for Europe.

BladeRunner: how do you connact it ti the head of the engine

Hi Roy, it's very simple......there is a "loop" of wire that is the sensor, you just put it around the cylinder head at the base near the crankcase and that's it!! There is a diagram on the package as well............

Blade runner.

I have one and I am told that 210 is the max you want to run the OS 50. This is straight from Kurt and the guys at Heliproz. I guss the bigger the block the lower the temp. Mine runs great at around 200. The OS 70 was running perfect at about 190. I use to use the Rayteck gun but was a pain in the butt to get the high end temp.

Hi Greg, I think that the Rayteck is a good piece of equipment....I have never used one but they are accurate by all accounts. I can't see how to get a good reading in a heli from them though,( an AC where you can run the engine up I can see) a heli engine will cool down within seconds when the load comes off....at least mine do and by the time you set down and the blades spool down and you get to take the reading the temp may be quite different than it was during a flight. In that sense I think the Venom gives me a better idea of the actual working temp of my engines. That 190~210 is in F and I usually see about 125~130C. The 50 seems quite happy at that temp, the only lean run I had was when I was experimenting with bringing that temp up a bit......the difference was only 3 clicks! That was enough for a flameout.......so I must have it dialed in very close...........

You are quite correct. I had a flame out the other day on a brand new OS 70 while it was inverted. Then end result was a cracked muffler bold hole. Im hoping Great planes will fix it without having to buy a new motor but who knows. The difference between 210 and 265 (way hot) is only a few clicks. So I know I'm pretty close. I live at 4500 so I have to try to get all I can get out of that 50. I like the venom so, but I will keep the Raytec for spot checks of student helies that don't have any type on monitor.

I bought a Venom here in Australia and they are as cheap as ****.
Easy to mount and great with max/min readings.
It's installed on a Raptor30 and once the engine is set-up right will be moved to the X-Cell and from there to a plane.
Love it!!!!!
Cheap, simple, effective...what more can you ask for.

Thumbs UP

It's got more features than the MPI, cost less, and has a better case. I got a new MPI and the damn case cracked the first time I used it, it has a real cheap , I mean REAL crap design to hold the battery. The Venom is far superior.
