Just another update.

I switched to VIPER 70 tail blades and so far in a hover they seem to have enough authority. I still need to test fast backwards flight with them to see if they are gonna work out but if they do i solved my problem with the blades possiblly hitting the tail rotors with extreme back cyclic.

Also another thing i did today was put on raptor 50 "greenies". They are lightened paddles but for this bird they are much bigger (same width but longer) than the stock paddles and they make an incredible difference in flip/roll rates. After i put these on i could reduce swash afr on aileron and elevator by 10% and still have more response than with the stock paddles. This is good because i had some very slight binding at extreme cyclic throws which would slow the head a bit when holding cyclic all the way forward/backward or to either side. This is now gone and i have even better cyclic response. I cant wait for a nice day to take this thing out to try it out in a big field now. I think its gonna be alot of fun.

Cheers,
Anni

Does this model have anything to do with HHI, or Quick in the USA?

No. . .Quick UK, HHI (aka Quick Worldwide), and Quick of Japan are all different companies.

Quick of Japan is not affiliated with any other company who may share their name.

Actually, the real truth is that Quick of Japan and Quick Worldwide used to be affiliated, but that's a rather long story. The point is that now, they no longer share any affiliation.

I think it should not be too difficult to stretch it if only we can find a bit longer belt! It will then use 420mm blalde and the whole bird will look somewhat nicer I believe!

How much longer do we need the belt?

I have sources in low places LOL

anni, it's getting hard to keep up w/your threads so i'm going to link this here for my (our) reference (as i'm replying to both in this thread):

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t214940p1

pitch: i emailed ep-8.com on the pitch, response was 32 pitch (same as older RC cars)

also want to retract my statement on the 2K headspeed. the heli is fine at 2,400 RPM max . this was the suggestion of other ep8 guys. i'm running gov mode now but am planning to switch back by next wknd for better consistency. i noticed some unnecessary (unwanted) deceleration during consecutive flip manuevers today.

a minor comment on the "teeter-totter" technique. my 8s w/stock blades increases elevation when i try this using full left/right. not sure how this is an appropriate test but just so you know..

finally wanted to mention that the SAB blades seem to meet the general consensus of approval (of other ep-8 owners @ my field). we're having a hard time getting ahold of them right now but they are definately worth your try. i believe they are 385mm's and were originally intended for the Eolo.

a note on the 1st video. we found that one of my cyclic servos was completely missing a screw and were actually surprised it flew that well considering the hideous amount of play it had.

i hope you get the chance to try the 8s. it really kicks ass and really takes the heli to another level.

chat soon...

flytech,

Really thank you for the very flying vedio! Still amazed that a little 115g with 8S Lipo can do so well! Many Eolo flyers uses Hacker B40-xL brushless to get good power, but that is a much more expensive and heavier motor!

In addition, noted that you use 8T pinion gear. Is it from also Quick Japan for QJ8 too? Where did you get 8T or 9T gear for this heli from?

thank you!

the pinion came from quick as well. i borrowed it from one of my airfield buds who owns an ep-8 as well.

when i get some spare cash i'm gonna find the Neu equivalent to my motor and give those a try. but i agree, hacker's are a bit pricey.

incidentally, that little 8-tooth brings my throttle curve to only 85% on the TX which is optimum to not exceed the 2,400 rpm headspeed limitation.

Guys,

Just another small update....

I got my mega 16/25/4 today with my Quick pinions as well and was able to do some small tests on 6S1P (as opposed to the 3S2P i was running before). WOW! This is it for me. At least for now. I went with the 10 tooth pinion and im getting about 2250rpm on the head now. This has made a huge difference. With my setup before, i was impressed with how fast this thing would move for such a large heli on 11.1 volts (it beat the Viper 70 hands down) but now on 22.2 volts im quite certain the climbout matches my Trex's and if not then its damn close but most importantly its got loads of torque now. This machine is 3D ready. Its just too bad with the bad weather here that it will be awhile before i will be able to do anything with it

Here are some pics:

BTW, One last thing I will probably want to try is mounting a futaba 9650 or even a full size 9254 to the tail boom. Can anyone point me in the direction of some tail servo mounts that will fit a 21mm boom?

I also need to cut those raptor 50 landing gear down a bit more. They are still a bit large compared to the rest of the heli but that was a real pain in the ass to do so im gonna save that for when im really bored

Cheers,
Anni

Oh btw, My flight time on 6S1P 2100mah packs is 8-10 minutes depending on which packs im using

Here is a short clip of it in the air. No 3D - This video is from when i was still on 3 cells (and before the canopy was painted) and it really didnt have enough power for 3D on 3 cells.

Quick Ep-8

Hi,

Two quick questions regarding this heli. How does it handle in windy conditions? What modulus is the motor pinion?

I am considering buying an Ep-8( probably the Sportsman version) as my as my first collective pitch helicopter. I am currently learning to fly on a LMH Corona which is fixed pitch.

Thanks,
Richard

haha... Sorry... Couldnt help myself

Wanna buy it? Ill give you a great deal!

Romain,

It handles wind great on account of it being CP and quite large (1.4 kg and 400mm blades - 420mm MS on mine). Pinion modulus is mentioned above in one of flytech's posts.

here's a link i found of the full size tail servo mount: KSJ-770

In this pic below, it's seen holding a Futaba S9254 (very, very nice setup for this heli)

again, this is a video of this equipment in use. note the tail holding through a high angle hurricane manuever. myself/guys at the field are pretty impressed with this little thing:

13Mb video (repost)

ps: mine piro-flips in the wind.. j/k :P

1500 USD and your Sawzall and you got a deal!

I had to use a dremel to do mine and it was a pain in the ass, made a mess, and wasnt very precise. Im going to get a small saw to do it proper later today.

If that will fit a 21mm boom and also a full size servo than yes! Do you have them in stock?
