Charley,

I'd like a frame set in either color but i would prefer ice blue. Let me know when its ready to ship and i will paypal you for it.

Cheers,
Anni

sheesh...

anni... you haven't even had a change to crash and burn your cnc frame yet? and you're already tryin' your hand at the CF.....

bet its a good bit lighter, eh?

Nah i dunno.... im just a sucker for these kinda things and i figure CF will hold up better and be lighter i think so when i crash i will have this frameset on hand to swap it over. Besides there is nothing else to buy for this heli It comes pre-blinged. The only thing it needs is better paddles and maybe some thrust bearings in the head although if the main shaft is the weak point as flytech says then thrust bearings still arent gonna help us get high head speeds without damage. Speaking of which....

Flytech, what do you mean the main shaft failed? Snapped? Bent? Vaporized?

pinion: 8T
m.shaft: looked like a pretzel in the end

anni, don't flip it until you get the 6s going. then try 8s. 8s is the best we've found so far in terms of 3d capability. it tends to fly somewhere like 30-sized bird (stablity/docile) with 50 size 3d capability (power/climbout/roll-rate).. yeah, weird combo.. but look at how stable it is in FFF, hover and inverted hover in the video to get an idea.

CG btw, with the 8s is dead on. (note the inverted piros in the vid)

Hmmm... 8 cells is gonna be a prob for me on this motor 6 cells is pushing it and it may fail. I will be over the manufacturer stated limits for RPM's on the motor with 6 cells unless i decrease the curve a bit but im gonna try it anyway. This may very well be when my first crash happens but i have the motor and cant use it for anything else so i may as well try it. I would think there has to be a better motor for that machine than a mega.... wish someone would hurry up and find it

BTW, why 8 cells? You said you are running TP2100 cells so did you actually take a few 3 cell packs apart and solder up your own 2 cell packs with that or did you already have 4 cell packs lying around and you just hooked em up in a series? I like the idea of 9 cells better so that i can use the packs i already have and if i have to get a new motor anyway....

One other thing.... are these modulus 0.7 pinions this thing takes? And is the main shaft hollow?

3s - 3s - 2s all in series..

the 2s part number is THP2100-2SJ (Li-Poly 2100mAh/7.4V)

tooth pitch? dunno..

shafts are hollow i believe

Hi
I posted this about 3 months ago. Ugliest thing I ever built. Flys fantastic. The only thing keeping me from buying one is the prospect of Align coming out with a simalar one and the aviability of parts

I bought one direct from Quick in Utsunomiya Japan, the shop is only about 40min. from where I live. Mr. Watanabe is a great ol guy.
I was considering buying a REX SE but I when I found out about the EP8 I decided to look into it further. I bought mine for 19000yen which is about $178~ compare that to the SE which is retailing for about $500, granted it comes with the motor and esc, the EP8 is in a class all by itself, Its big, and no compromises in quality have been made with this machine. Its also made in Japan which is a plus, since they make the best radio controlled everything. In my book its the King of Bling.

Any online shop that sells those helis?
pm me if any.
where you got yours?
parts availability?

@twinring
I c, it's so big that you barely fit in that pic.

After all align will come up with a new e-heli of that or maybe a bigger scale.

But...
I want an QJ8 badly

I don't know of any sites in Greece for you to order from, but you can check out www.ep-8.com or www.helicopterhobbies.com as they are the official US distributor.

Ok i got my modulus 0.7 11 Tooth pinion today so i could try 6S1P on this bird but just one problem. Its apparently not modulus 0.7 (logo 10 / 14) so I guess it must be 0.5 because its quite close to being correct but just not quite there. Disappointing Ahwell... off to source the correct pinions again.

OK....WOW! In addition to the pinions, i got some other new toys today. Namely some raptor greenies paddles which i have not yet tried and some MS composit 420mm blades (compared to the 400mm stock blades). Im sitting over here scratching my head now because i cant believe the difference between these blades and the stock ones.

First off climbout is LOTS better...thats to be expected i guess going to a larger blade. The disc seems less loaded as well and you dont seem to hear as much RPM drop when you lift into a hover. Ok nothing ground breaking there..... BUT....

CYCLIC RESPONSE! Wow! There is a HUGE increase in cyclic response with these blades. Its night and day. Havent flipped or rolled it yet but when i push the stick all the way forward and back again and kind of "teeter-totter" the thing in the air its VERY responsive and it loses no altitude whereas with the stock blades if you do this a couple times it just keeps falling / losing altitude and you can hear the motor straining a bit to maintain rpm. With these blades i would even say that the response rivals that of my trex. The thing is i would have expected the opposite. Larger blades i would have thought would make it more stable and decrease cyclic response. I thought about weight but these blades are only about 5 grams lighter than the stock blades. 20mm longer each but...hmmmm.....

Well anyway im almost sorry ive tried these blades because there is one downside.....

The blades are just a bit too long for the tail rotors. Looks like if you pulled back too hard on that cyclic stick you might just nick the rotors. Its such a shame because its just incredible the difference these blades make. Its such a big difference i think i am going to be stupid and continue to fly them until such a time i run into a problem with them chopping into my tail rotor. Thats gonna be an ugly crash i bet but im thinking if i dont bang the sticks and just fly this thing smoothly it may be something i can get away with for awhile... Am i being incredibly stupid here?

Anyway.... the cyclic improvement is so great that i am not even going to bother putting the raptor greenie paddles on until i have a mishap and decide its not feasible to fly these blades. I just dont need any more response now with these blades. I wish i could find a 410-415mm blade and could see how those do....

Ahwelll....
