Century Hawk - Falcon - Raven - Predator > Tail rotor pushrod support with boom mounted servo?

On the Falcon 50 I am going to boom mount the tail rotor servo. I am going to use a carbon fiber pushrod. Do I need to provide a support for the pushrod along the tail boom, or will it be solid/rigid enough without one? On Kurt Voclain's Falcon 50 he appears not to have a support! Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks, Michael

I had the similar setup, a free floating .188" carbon pushrod, it would vibrate like a guitar string in hover; made the gyro drift. I made a mid support and now it works great.

Falcon Rear Servo mount

MJS,
I went down this road awhile back. I bought the Century CF pushrod kit. The pushrod is nice but the guides are horrible. They have this little black eyelet that sits in the guide. It moves around and causes some binding. Here is a pic:

CF Pushrod Suppor

So, I took a stock boom pushrod guide and screwed a Minature Aircraft rudder pushrod eyelet to it. Now everything is silky smooth and direct.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I advise you to seriously reconsider moving the rudder servo on the Falcon SE V2 unless you are willing to deal with the severe changes it maks to the model's CG. I have a thread posted here about the Falcon's CG and moving this servo to the tail boom makes is substantially worse. I know this much, after my next crash I am moving it back up front.

Pushrod support

I made it from a piece of .5" thick delrin material (plastic) it is"teardrop" shaped, I bored the hole for the boom to go through exact size and put the hole for the pushrod at the exact distance and angle from the boom. I sleeved the CF pushrod with some 7/32" brass tubing to provide a wear surface. It works great, almost no friction. Once the support was in position it was secured with some thin CA and hasn't moved since.
I"m a Machinist, I made it at work. I don't have any pics or a digital camera, but this has just about put me over the edge to buy one.
If only you could see the neat extended radio tray for the front that I made from aluminum to solve the balance problem. No lead on my bird.

Here what I used

Just use the stock guide rings and screw this to them. Be sure to use EPOXY to glue the ring to the boom. CA is to brittle and will crack causing the ring to turn and bind up the tail rotor pushrod. The result can be exciting unless you can do piro manuevers!!
