Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Servo arms too short?

I am installing the electronics in my Tiger 50 and one of the first servo arms (Elevator) that have to be connected needs to be 20MM from center of arm to the point where the linkage connects to the ball on the arm.

The problem is that in the flight pack that I got there is no arm that is that long. The only one that would fit is a large round one and I am sure that is not correct.

Do I need to purchase additional arms to get the specifications that are stated in the instructions?

I currently have several 4 arm and six arm servo arms.

Dubro #670 for Futaba, #671 for JR and #672 for Hitec
These are tough arms and do come close to the proper distances.
Most shops carry these on their rack.

I actually have 45mm diameter Futaba wheels on my airleron servos. The outer holes are right on 20 mm. I found the pre-drilled Dubro arms were off a 1/2 mm.

The front one should be 23mm. I used the Dubro arm for that.

Hello shackscs,

If the wheel can do 20mm or 23mm then you are good to go, just use the wheels.

I ended up buying a set of the Dubro Heavy Duty Arms and a set of the Dubro Heavy Duty Extra Large Arms. I used a regular H/D arm on the 20mm hole on the aft servos and an Extra Large arm at a 23mm hole for the forward servo.

Ok I hate to be a PITA but, I used the 45mm wheel and so far so good. However when I use the swashplate leveling tool and have it sitting on the collar and the swashplate resting on it, I can not get the 90 degrees that I am looking for.

Should I get this as close as I can and then adjust the trim to get it at 90 degrees? Or do away with the leveling tool altogether?

Use SUB trim to get the hole on the servo arm/disc exactly horizontal to the servo center. Do both sides and the front. Now to get the swash level, sticks centered, horns 90 deg, you adjust the linkages to the swash to make it level. This is the perfectionist way of doing it. Or you can just sub trim the swash level than look at your arms. Again adjust the links but this time till the arms are 90.... still using sub-trim. Just the oppposite as the first method but yeilds the same results.

Sticks Centered
Swash Level
Horns 90 deg

From there you will be home free.

Just remember to put the forward servo linkage 23mm out from the center of the screw or you will get some un-wanted interaction on the collective.

Thanks about the indicator. Some here has offered to help when I get that far.

Ok, so are there any other parts, nick nacks, or any other little item I might need to complete this assembly?

I am making a trip to my LHS and don't want to make too many trips in one day.

Thanks,

Hey shackscs,

In the addendum I wrote explaining the need for 20 mm arms on the two aft servos and a 23 mm arm on the forwardmost servo and recommended the Du-Bro HD servo arms. Did you not receive an addendum? The current one is v1.7 and if yours is older than than, just e-mail us at and we'll send you the current one.

One of the first pages of the instructions tells you some of the things that aren't included that you need to complete assy. I have the long clutch hub for the OS50.

Antenna... I had a hard time deciding whether to use a full length or a short base loaded antenna. Ended up buying the plastic antenna tubing and keeping it full length.

First flights keep a close eye on the belt tension. The boom slides back in. I'm working that issue now.

Also careful wacking the tail into the grass. The tail pitch plate is quite fragile. I broke it with a light tail strike to the ground. No sign of tail blade damage at all. Also bent the tail rotor shaft. All I'm saying is keep the tail rotor up. I'm a novice so I tend to come down hard often. That sucker really spins fast so as in any of these helis, a tail strike could be damaging.

Yes, if the boom is loose it will slide in - not out as some folks have posted. One thing to check is how you're tightening the boom. If you are using a screwdriver-handle type 2.5 mm Allen driver, it's hard to get sufficient torque. I suggest you get yourself a T-handle or L-shaped 2.5 mm Allen wrench instead because with that you can really tighten those suckers! Second, there are two small 1.5 mm Allen set screws in each side of the aft part fo the frame (look near the last two bolts in the frames) which are meant for securing the boom from moving. However, I don't engage those until after a flight (to work the belt in - but it only takes one flight) and the other thing I do is I replace the 1.5 mm Allen set screws with M3x10 Allen Socket-head machine screws (like to what is everywhere else on the heli) because then I use the same wrench for everything - plus th tiny 1.5 mm Allen is prone to rounding out while the larger ones aren't. See if that doesn't resolve any issue my friend!

Yes, I saw that after my posts. That's why I am going to get the dubro arm.

I assume that I only need the one?

Ok, I picked up the arms at my LHS. The pack of arms was about $10.00. I will post again if I run into any other problems.
